Chapter Twenty-Five
Max and Lily help me with my hair and makeup, finishing right as there was a knock at the door. I sucked in a breath, standing to my feet. Smiling, Megan opened it.
"Hey, Niles. She's been waiting for you."
Megan moved out of the way, gesturing for him to come in. Coming into my view was a man who looked good in a suit. My mouth opened in surprise and perhaps pleasure. Oh, my gosh.
"Close your mouth before a bug flies in." Clary rolled her eyes.
I followed Clary's advice as Niles looked me over. Probably because of how horrible I looked. This was a huge mistake. I should never have agreed.
"Britt, you look beautiful." Niles breathed.
Was he serious? He thought this was beautiful? How could I be beautiful to such a gorgeous man? Was he blind?
"Thank you." I blushed.
"Are you ready?" Niles asked, reaching out for my hand.
"Yeah," I said, trying not to faint as I accepted his warm hand.
Never in a million years did I ever see this happening. Would I wake up and this all be a dream? My small hand shook in his large one, but he smiled reassuringly.
"Take good care of her," Max said.
"I will."
"Have her home by eleven," Megan called.
We chuckled as we walked out of the dorm rooms and down the hall.
"So I was thinking we could have Italian. Is that okay with you?"
"Yeah, it's fine."
We made it down to his car, and he opened the door for me. I smiled warmly at him.
"Thank you," I muttered.
"You're welcome."
He closed the door and walked over to hop in the driver's seat. After starting the car, he backed out of the parking lot. The ride over to the restaurant was spent in comfortable silence. Music played at a low volume, and I smiled at the soothing sound.
We arrived at the restaurant and Niles asked the young lady at the front for a table for two. The flirty looked she gave him didn't go unnoticed by me, but he didn't seem to notice. I felt the slight need to grab his hand, to let her know he was with me, but I restrained myself. We weren't dating. He wasn't my boyfriend, so I shouldn't feel jealous of this girl. Even if she was pretty and much skinnier than I was.
She hurried to find us a table and led us over to it, swaying her hips to gain Niles' attention. I clenched my fist and bit the inside of my cheek to not say anything to her. Did she not see he was with someone? Once at the table, we sat down. She handed us our menus, flipping her blonde hair, bending towards him. I didn't need to be a genius to know she was trying to give him a good look at her breast. I rolled my eyes. Why didn't she just take her shirt off for him?
