Chapter: Eighty-Five
"Britt, is everything alright?" Henry asked once I was inside.
"It's okay." I frowned.
"Most of us don't agree with Liam's decision they have to be told right this second. But you must understand, they do need to know."
"I know," I nodded.
"It will be okay," he promised, putting a hand on my shoulder as he walked past me.
"This isn't the hardest thing you'll deal with, O'Neill," Zeke promised me as he stepped out of the doorway.
Where was Lily when I needed her to get him to be quiet?
"I know that Stiles."
"No, I don't think that you do," he glared.
"This is my family."
"I don't believe you've grasped the seriousness of what's going on here."
"I know that I'm going to have to tell my family something they might not even believe, and no matter my decision or how they say it, they will be in danger from this point forward. That's what I know."
"Mattie is tough for a human. She'll be able to handle it. As for your brother, well, that remains to be seen."
I was both touched and offended by his statement. He really did seem to like Mattie, which was really sweet, though I wished he'd like me a little more. However, him implying Jay wasn't tough just made me angry. This was the big brother who'd protected me from bullies all throughout childhood and took care of me. He was also the one my dad had promised to always look after me, and he always did.
"Jay can handle this. They both can," I insisted.
"Good, then you should have no problem telling them," he said, walking past me.
I glared until I realized something. Was that his way of comforting me? Making myself realize my loved ones were strong, just like me? A smile crossed my features as I walked up the stairs and into Abel's nursery. Megan was by the crib, gazing down at him, and she lifted her eyes, smiling as she gestured me to come over.
"Is he asleep?"
"Yes, he is. I'm glad things have finally quietened down. Everything okay down there?" she asked.
"It is now."
"Good. I thought the air felt calmer now, but my senses are still off. I've heard they will be for a while until my body returns to normal. He also said your pregnancy with Xavier was difficult."
"Hmm really?"
I'd have to ask them about that. Considering Liam had to ask Victor to help us to conceive, perhaps that had something to do with why carrying Xavier was difficult. She'd mentioned nothing about Ellie, but I knew that the birth process had ended with both our deaths. A somber feeling overtook me and I was grateful Abel and Megan were both here and safe right now.
