Chapter: Thirty-Six
"Niles!" We heard Jay shout angrily.
Okay, so normally the idea of my brother finding me kissing a guy would be terrifying. He'd threaten to beat him up in a typical big brother fashion. Now, however, I was just thrilled it wasn't Liam. However, as Niles pulled away, I felt profound disappointment in my bones. I wanted more of this feeling. He made me feel things I had never had before and I liked them.
Jay walked forward until he was face to face with Niles. "You want to explain to me why you're sucking face with my sister?"
"Jay," I gasped, embarrassed.
"Jayden, I completely respect your sister and I realize this might be a surprise—"
"I knew something was going on with her and one of you. Figured you were the one. I see how you look at her. So, what makes you think you can suck face with my sister? What are your intentions with her? Because I know guys and how they think."
How utterly embarrassing. Jay, as a protective big brother, was almost something I found adorable. Now, however, it was just embarrassing. Yes, Jay took it upon himself to take care of me and mom in dad's absence. So, this was what I expected. This was Niles, who I never believed would hurt me despite the signs he could. Plus, the idea of Jay being threatening to Niles was almost laughable. He was bigger than Tamron, but not as big as the guys.
Once more, I was thankful I wasn't the one dating Zeke. Jay might be long dead. Oh, let's hope he didn't say anything to Liam. I looked between them nervously. I had just been kissed, and I wanted to be kissed, so that was a big deal. Yet my brother was going to make a fuss and embarrass me.
"Jayden, I understand, and you're exactly right. My attentions are all good. As the only intentions I have are being with your sister and enjoying our time together. If she'd have me. As her brother, I hope you understand and respect that."
Have me? Did he want to be with me? I couldn't imagine that even if the kiss proved it. How could he ever want me? Was I dreaming? I pinched myself quickly, but I didn't wake up.
"Man, I like you, and I believe Britt is a good judge of character. So, if she likes you, then I'm okay with it. You got my stamp of approval."
"Really?" I questioned in surprise.
"Yes, really."
"Wait, a second. Did you decide that beforehand?" I wondered.
"Yeah pretty much."
"So you were never angry?"
"Nope, I just thought it would be fun to pretend I was. Plus Travis dared me."
"How would Travis know?"
"I don't know. I don't think he did. He just said if I ever saw you kissing anyone, I should do that. I thought it would be fun, and it was. I'll be sure to tell him about this," he chuckled.
