Chapter: Sixty-Five

"Good morning Britt. Sleep well?" Victor was sitting at the kitchen table with a wide smirk on his face. Why was he here? I wanted to be angry, but right now, the image of seeing him here just made me want to get sick all over again. I jumped, feeling a hand on my shoulder from behind. I turned to see mom looking at me in concern.

"Britt, did you sleep okay?"

"Fine," I said, running from the room and retreating upstairs to my bedroom. I slammed the door shut in fear. I knew I was acting strange and mom would notice, but right now I couldn't help it. The monster who'd ordered the death of a pregnant woman was in my house. I put my head on my door in exasperation. I couldn't handle this.

"You seem a little stressed. Something wrong?" I screamed in terror, whipping around at the sound of Victor's voice. I shrank back, slamming my back against my door as my heart hammered in my chest. He stood in front of me, a smirk ever-present on his face. How had he gotten up here?

"Oh, did I startle you?" he smirked.

"What the hell are you doing?" I seethed.

"Checking on you, of course. You've worried poor Trisha half to death. I tried to assure her it was just typical teenage angst."

"Where is my mom?" I demanded.

"I sent her on some errands. She's so eager to please." Errands? What did that mean? What kind of errands? My eyes widened.

"Where did you send her to? What are you having her do?"

"How sweet. You're worried I sent mommy to do some of my special missions? No, I wouldn't do that. Not now, at least. I simply sent her to drop off some things for me at Berkley and pick up a few items from the grocery store." I relaxed, but only slightly, knowing my mom was safe. The thought of him making her go through some of the things he did to me were frightening. I would never let that happen. I had to protect her from this world even if she was dating its most dangerous inhabitant.

"What are you doing here?" I finally asked. I didn't like the idea we were all alone right now. How I wished I hadn't sent Niles away last night. At least I wouldn't be alone.

"Visiting my loving girlfriend, what else?" Yes, his girlfriend he just sent away and who he didn't need to be anymore near. This was another game of his and if I'd learned anything, it was that Lucifer loved games. Looking at him really was making me sick. I wanted him gone.

"Get out," I instructed.

"Really Britt? You know I don't have much experience with child-rearing but your behavior has become quite unruly as of late. Vincent would be so disappointed."

"Don't even say his name," I interrupted. How dare he even mention my father's name. Furthermore, he was speaking of me as though I were being a naughty child. This coming from the one who was kicked out of heaven for trying to take it over.
