It started out calmly enough. They had a case and had chased the criminal deep into the snowy woods. It was dark, cold and confusing. Max had promised to stay close to Sam when they first entered, but now it was so dark he couldn't even see his own hand in front of his face, much less see Sam. What was worse is that the snow muffled their footsteps so she couldn't hear Sam either. Man, He really regretted not eating that flashlight when he had the chance.

Sam was not doing so great. He had got separated from max and was looking for him, but the coldness was quickly causing him to slow down. He was forced onto her knees, crying as his lungs slowly froze and he could no longer breathe. "M-max..." he said with his last bit of energy as his body froze over and death overtook him.

Max had managed to find a clearing that was free of snow, and had attempted to light a fire, but had accidentally caught his fur on fire. He burned to death shortly after. Anyone in the mood for roasted rabbit?

But their deaths were not the end for them.

When Sam awoke, he found himself in some sort of ice palace. He looked himself over, his fur was now pure white and his suit was now light blue. He looked around. A few other ice spirits surrounded him. "Welcome, new spirit." He looked at them. "Spirit..?" they nodded. "When you died, your body became an ice spirit, which is what you are now." Sam nodded, then used his hands to make a few snowflakes. "Wow neat. So, what do ice spirits do?" "mostly we hang out in the mountains and make ice sculptures." Sam looks at all the ice sculptures. "They are very pretty..."

Max meanwhile, woke up in a smoking hot desert. His fur was a light orange and he wore a red and black cape. He was surrounded by fire spirits that looked similar to him. "Hey, welcome to the team!" one of them said. "What team?" max replied. They explained that they were fire spirits and their job was to hang out in the desert and burn stuff. Max smiles. "I like watching things burn!" "Well then you'll love being a fire spirit!"

Things went alright for a few weeks. Sam liked making ice sculptures and max loved burning things. Until one day one of the ice spirits noticed that Sam was making lots of statues of the same creature, a small rabbit. "Uh, Sam?" Sam turned to her. "Yes?" "Who is this rabbit guy you keep making sculptures of?" "oh.." Sam went to one of the sculptures and stroked it's face sadly, "he was my fiancé when I was alive..." "ah.. I see.." the spirit looked closely at the sculpture. "You know, when I went to check on the fire spirits in the desert, I saw one who looked remarkably like these statues... I'll have to tell him the next time I see him.'' Sam laughed. "Wow, what a coincidence..."

Later that day, the ice spirit went to go see the fire spirits, who were busy playing in the sand and making it into glass. Max was lying in the sun, soaking up heat like a chameleon. The ice spirit went over to him. "Hello." Max looked at her, "oh hi!" she smiled and sat up. "What's up?" "Well, in the icy mountains, one of my ice spirit pals is making sculptures that look a lot like you!" "ooh! Can I come see them?" "oh! Sure!" Max stood up and the ice spirit led him off.

After the long walk back to the icy mountains, the spirit led him into the sculpture cave. All the statues looked just like max, in different sizes, styles and poses. Max sighs. "Man... the person who made all of these must be really talented," the spirit nods. Max looks at her. "Your friend must have really loved whoever these were modeled after." the spirit nodded. Suddenly, Sam came in. "oh, heya." the spirit turned to him. Sam waves to them. The spirit smiled. "Oh hey! Remember that fire spirit I told you about? Well, he wanted to come see the sculptures." max turns to Sam. "Oh hi! I must say you did very well, they look like me." Once Sam lays eyes on Max, he freezes(heh). Max looked him over. "Say, you look kind of familiar.." Sam tears up, his tears freezing. "Y-your name... it's max isn't it?" Max tilted his head. "Yeah?" Sam smiled, kneeling to look in him eyes. "I-it's me little buddy.." Max gasped and covered his mouth as he realized, his ears lowering. Sam stroked his cheek gently. "I've missed you..." Max tears up as well, his tears burning. They fall into an embrace, their temperatures balancing each other out as they wept happily. The spirit realizes. "OHHHHH.... The ice sculptures that Sam made of his love look like the fire spirit because the fire spirit IS his love!" she smiles. "It all makes sense now!" Sam giggled. "I guess it wasn't a coincidence after all." Max leaned up to kiss him happily.

Even after their reunion was over they didn't let go of each other. 'Man, it's so nice to feel warmth for once..." Sam said as he held max while carrying him to an average temperature place, in between the mountains and the desert. Max smiles. "And I feel very happy being cold for once. Sam giggled. "Say max..." Max looks at him. "Yeah?" Sam finger guns at him. "You are 'HOT'." he laughs. Max rolls his eyes. "Sam, that was so cheesy." Sam giggles. "I'm sorry, I had to." Max kisses his cheek. "Well I guess that makes you 'cool'." Sam smiled gently, kissing his head.

In the springtime, the two spirits came together to marry, like they planned to before they died. Their marriage represented the union of the ice and fire spirits once and for all.
