A Saturday in the 80s, and the little freelance police were at the playground.
Little Sam was sitting on the ground, crying. Some jerk had pushed him over and called him a fat tub of lard, which ended up with him scraping his knee.
Max walked over, his signature smile on his face. "Hey Sam! What's up?" He then noticed Sam was crying. "Oh no, what happened?" Sam looked up at him, his face wet with tears. "M-melon pushed me... and I hurt my leg..."
Max grits his teeth and clenches his fist. "Where... is... he..."
Sam sniffles and wipes his nose. "I don't know where he went, he took off laughing..." max kicks the ground. "Darn, I wanted to give him a taste of my bare fists down his throat..." Sam smiles a little.
Max then helps Sam up. "Don't worry, my place is nearby, and I know there are bandages stashed everywhere." Sam tilts his head. "Why..?'" max giggles. "Because 3 out of the 5 lagomorphs that live there have teeth like mine." he says, pointing to them. Sam nods. "I-i see..."
Max walks Sam back to his house, where Max's mother, Daniela, helped Sam to clean and bandage up the scrape.
After Sam's knee was all cleaned and bandaged, Max and him were sat at the table and chatting about comics while Dani was making some chocolate pudding since Max requested it.
"Sam, dear, are you sure you can eat this?" Dani said with a worried look on her face. Sam nodded. "Yeah, my mom says I've been cleared by veterans." Dani giggles. "That's 'veterinarians." She walks back to the counter. "Okay, as long as you're safe." she says as she fixes another bowl.
She puts the two bowls in front of them, along with spoons. "Enjoy!" she says with a smile. "Thanks mom!" Max says, starting to chow down.
Sam takes a bite and smiles. "Mmm! This stuff is yummy!" he continues to eat, every bite tasting like heaven. The swirling of rich, creamy chocolate in his mouth danced on his taste buds.
When he was finished, he smiled. "Hey, my leg doesn't hurt anymore!" he says, looking down. "It's like I never fell over in the first place." Dani giggles, patting his head gently. "Glad you liked it."
Sam smiles at her, then turns to max. "This stuff is great!" Max nods. "Pudding makes everything better!"
Sam nods. "Yeah.. it does."
*30 or so years later*
Max was sleeping soundly in his top bunk, until he started tossing and turning, leading to him waking up.
He needed snuggles and needed them NOW.
He peeked down to Sam's bunk. "Hey Sam?" He then noticed Sam wasn't there. "Huh?"
He hopped out of bed and slid down the rope, then heard some noise in the kitchen.
He walks out of the bedroom and down the hall, following the noise, then looks in the kitchen doorway to see Sam standing at the stove, stirring a pot of something.
"What are you doing...?" he asks, confused.
"Making chocolate pudding." Sam answered, not even looking at him.
Max tilts his head. "Sam, it's like 3 in the morning... why the hell are you making chocolate pudding?"
Sam turned to him, a tired and dreary expression on his face.
"Because I've lost control of my life, little buddy."
