(art by me (and max lol))
In the early days of the freelance police, they didn't get many cases, and just spent most of their days bored in the office.
Today was one of those days... a cold day plus no phone calls equals Sam and Max being Uber bored. Sam was taking a short nap on the(at this point still fairly new and not ripped) red couch, and Max had taken the opportunity to get a pen and some paper and sit at his desk, doodling.
He drew many things. Sam and him holding hands, them on a date, them being cute as kids, them dancing under a rainbow, many things that conveyed his love. But his favorite one was the one he drew of them kissing in front of a burning building that said "vilain lair". He smiled at the drawing, stroking it gently, then looking at sam. "Maybe one day..." he whisper-mumbled to himself.
As soon as he was done with the drawings, he gathered them all up and took them back to the bedroom, where he hid all of them under his pillow. He knew Sam wouldn't dare to look there without the risk of having his ears bitten off.
Or at least he thought he had gathered them all.
Once he was done stuffing them all in his pillow, he decided to nap as well, falling asleep in his top bunk.
Sam, meanwhile, had just woken up from his nap, stretching. "Ah, that hit the spot, these cold days always make my bones feel lazy." He gets up and looks around the office, seeing that it was a bit of a mess. "Does Max ever clean this place?" he sighed. "Oh well, looks like it's up to me AGAIN." Usually he didn't mind cleaning up the office, but something about today made it feel more like work. Nevertheless, he got to work picking up trash around the office. Napkins from takeout dinners, chip bags, plastic wrappers from ice creams, the usual trash. But when he went to clean up around Max's desk, he found a lone piece of paper. "Huh? What's this?" He picks it up.
He turns around and looks at it, and it appears to be a drawing of him and Max kissing in front of some kind of burning building. Sam's face became just as hot as the fire in the drawing. "Oh my.."
About a half hour later, Max woke up from his nap. He sits up slowly and stretches. "Ah, what a nice refresher." he smiled and looked under his pillow, getting his drawings and looking at them all. But then he noticed one was missing. "Wait a minute..." he looked through them again. "Oh no, I must have left it on my desk!" he hops out of bed, slid down the rope, and prayed to every deity he knew that Sam hadn't woken up as he walked down the hall to the office.
He gently opened the door...
"Hey lil buddy, have a nice nap?" Sam said, sat at his desk. Max jumped a bit. "O-oh yeah! It was fine!" He looked around the office. "Did you clean up?" Sam nodded. "Yeah. the place was filthy.'' Max felt a shock of panic go down his spine. "Ah! Good!" he said shakily. He then quickly rushed over to his desk, looking around and under it. "Looking for something, little buddy?" Sam asked. Max shivers and shakes his head. "N-no, I w-was just... making sure you didn't rearrange my desk too much!" he said frantically as he looked inside it." Sam laughs. "Well don't worry, I didn't touch the desk." Max nods. "Okay g-good." he continues looking inside.
"I did find something under it though."
Max jolts. "O-oh, I wonder what...?" he said, his internal panic sensors going into maximum overdrive. Sam laughs. "Okay, first of all, calm down. Breathe for a second." Max breathes deeply until he's not shaking. "O-okay?" "Now sit down." Max nods, closing his desk and sitting at his chair. Sam pulls Max's drawing out of his desk drawer and walks over, setting it in front of him. "I have a few things to say about this." Max nods, starting to shake again. "Y-yeah?" Sam smiles. "It's mostly really good, but a few things are off." he points to the drawing. "My nose is too big, your body is too small, and 'villain' has two l's in it." Max nods. "O-okay, should I... fix it?" Sam shakes his head. "Nah, it's fine, just remember that stuff in your next drawing." Max nods. "Y-yeah..." although he highly doubted he was gonna draw any more.
"One last thing." Sam said, leaning on Max's desk. Max gulped nervously. "Yeah...?" Sam leaned in close to him. "We aren't setting the building on fire, but we can still kiss if you want." he said with a smile. Max's eyes went wide. "A-are you serious?" Sam nodded. "As a heart attack." Max leans forward, pecking his lips very quickly and leaning back. Sam giggled. "That's all?" Max closes his eyes. "You do it then!" Sam laughs, scooping max up in his arms and kissing him with deep passion. Max wraps his arms around Sam's shoulders, the tension in his muscles releasing and falling back into a relaxed state. They savor the blissful moment before Max slowly pulls back, looking deeply in Sam's eyes for a little bit before hugging him super tightly.
"Sam you idiot why didn't you just tell me you like me back?" he yells. "I almost had an anxiety attack!" he says, burying his face in Sam's shoulder. "I'm sorry," Sam says, gently stroking Max's back. "I just wanted to have a little fun with you!" Max nuzzles him "idiot...you're lucky you're so cute or I'd bite your ears off for that!" Sam giggles. "You crack me up little artist."
Later, Max shows Sam the rest of his drawings, which they then spend the evening sticky tacking them all to the walls. But the kissing one went in Sam's wallet, so he could have it with him at all times.
