Yin and yang.

That's what they were. All their lives they'd been that way.

Sam was tall, Max was short. Sam was careful, Max was reckless. Sam was chubby, Max was thin. Sam had dark fur, Max had light fur. Sam was smart, Max was... less smart.

They were opposites. That's the way it was.

Sam was perfect.

He was too good for max...

Max was contemplating this while he was supposed to be doing homework. He looks out the window at the trees.

Yup, he was a rule breaker all right. Didn't care for rules or follow them. Whether it came to behaving, eating, dressing, or liking girls like boys his age were apparently supposed to do, he didn't do what he was told. He liked doing his own thing. Sam on the other hand followed all the rules. Well, most of the time.

Max smiled. There were a few times when Sam was totally fine with a little rule breaking. Whether it was throwing food at people who had bullied them, pulling pranks on notorious d-heads, or even breaking the school dress code on occasion.

Heck, Sam had even broken the "boys your age should be going after girls!" rule by crushing on a few guys.

Max sighed sadly. "Not me though..." he said as he went back to filling in gibberish on his English homework.

Suddenly his phone rang.

Max immediately picked it up. "yo."

"Hey little buddy!"

Max smiled. "Sam! How are ya?"

"I'm awesome! Hey guess what?"

"What?"

"I got the whole house to myself this weekend! you know what that means!"

Max gasped. "Sleepover?!"

"Sleepover!"

Max squealed in joy. "I'll pack my things and be right over!"

"Great!" See ya soon buddy!"

Max hangs up and immediately shoots out of his chair and over to his closet, throwing the doors open and packing a few things. Sleep shirts, comics, his comically oversized and tacky bunny slippers, the usual sleepover stuff.

After telling his parents he was going to Sam's place for the weekend, he stepped out and walked along the sidewalk.

Sam's house wasn't too far from his, just a few blocks away. While he walked, he thought of all the fun him and Sam would have over the weekend. They could watch horror films, eat all the junk food in the house, and just hang out, like best buddies do!

Max sighed a bit.

Yeah, they're best buddies.

That's all they'll ever be.

Sam was busy tidying up the living room. His parents and sister were out of town for the weekend, taking her to some little kids theme park for her birthday, and Sam had the house to himself.

This was the night he was finally gonna hang out with Max uninterrupted. No parents needing him for chores, no sister wanting to put makeup on him, and no homework(well for him) to stress about.

60 straight hours of just him max, and a whole load of pg-13 rated movies, video games and off brand junk food.

It was gonna be SWEET!

Ding ding! The doorbell went off. Sam smiled, going to open it.

"Howdy!" Max said when he did. "Hey buddy! Come on in!" Sam said, stepping to the side. Max pulls his bag in. "I'm so excited!" Sam smiles. "You should be!" Max puts his bag by the sofa. "I can't believe we finally have the whole weekend to ourselves!" Sam nods. "I know right? What luck that Lily's birthday was on a weekend this year!" Max nods. "How old is she turning?" "three." "Aww, she's getting so big!" Sam smiles. "Yeah..."
