One thing more

(art by me)

It had been a hard day for young max. He and Sam had spent the day at a wedding for one of Sam's aunts and it was torture. He had to wear a tiny suit and everything. Oh well, at least he got to stand next to Sam as the "assistant ring bearer" and they had tons of fun dancing and eating fancy food at the reception. Later that night, Max had fallen asleep in their car, so Sam's parents decided to let him stay over. A few hours later, the boys were asleep on the couch. Sam woke up, wanting to ask max something. "Maxie." he said, gently shaking him. Max woke up. "What..?" Sam smiled. "This wedding has got me thinking about the future..." Max sat up. "Yeah?" Sam looked him in the eye. "Maxie, if I ever get married, will you be my best man?" Max nodded. "Of course Sammy! Especially if I get my own cake!" Sam smiled and hugged him. "Well if you ever get married I'll be yours too right?" Max nodded. "Sure Sammy! I'd like nothing more!" he giggled. "But I'm probably not gonna get married. Girls are grody." Sam giggles. "Suit yourself." After that, they lied down and fell back asleep.

Little did Max know, he would be getting married in the future, and to Sam no less!

After a life or death stakes case closed in front of a burning evil operating center, Sam had gotten down on one knee and asked Max to marry him right then and there. Max obviously said yes (with an enthusiastic tackle kiss) and they made out for at least a half hour before heading back to the office filled with glee and excitement.

But that night, while they were snuggled up in bed, Max suddenly remembered something. "Sam..." he said, shaking him. Sam woke up, stirring. "What is it?" Max looked him in the eye. "When we were younger, I... I promised you I would be the best man at your wedding." Sam remembers, then giggles. "Haha, I guess plans change." he said, taking max's hand. Max looks down at his ring (they got one out of an arcade machine on the way back) and smiles. "Yeah, I guess so." Sam kisses his head. "If only little you and I knew what was to come in the future." Max hugs him. "Yeah..." Sam lies back down with Max in his arms and they fall back asleep.

Finally came the day they were to be wed, and the moment came for them to exchange their vows.

Max, in his white dress and veil, held Sam's large hands tightly, looking into his eyes. "Sam... Do you remember when we were young, and I said I would like 'nothing more' than to be the best man at your wedding?" Sam nods. "Yeah..?" Max smiled widely. "Well, I think I'd like one thing more. And that's to be your bride. For now, and forever." Sam smiled and teared up a bit. "You crack me up little buddy... and I know you always will."
