Ah, the high school theatre, where everyone wants to play the lead but only a few lucky people can make it. Sam had recently gotten the male lead in the school's upcoming production of a somewhat modernized version of "Romeo and Juliet" and he was very excited about it. Max was too, because he and Sam had been dating for a few months and he was hoping to audition for the female lead so he could be Juliet to Sam's Romeo.

"I'm sorry, but you can't audition for Juliet." the teacher said to max as he walked on stage. Max was angry. "Why?" he said. "Only girls can audition for Juliet, it's the rule." she replied. Max growled, storming out. "I'm Sam's true love, I should be his princess!" he growled under his breath.
To make things worse, The part of Juliet ended up going to Jamie Edison, which made Max even angrier, because 1. he knew Jamie had a crush on Sam, 2. She was angry Max had got him first, and 3. She had been trying to break them up ever since they got together.

Later, Max was sitting by himself on the side of the courtyard. Sam came over to him. "Hey bud, what's wrong?" Max looked up at him. "You kissing that b*tch Jamie is what's wrong..." Sam was confused, and startled. "W-what? I never kissed her!" max rolled his eyes. "She's gonna be your Juliet." Sam thinks and realizes, sighing in relief. "Ohhh." he then sat down next to Max, who scooted over. Sam looks at him "Hey, just because we're gonna kiss doesn't mean I like her, it's just for the play!" max growls. "Well she definitely likes you. Haven't you noticed her flirting with you and pretending I'm not literally holding your hand 5 inches away?" Sam sighed, scooting closer. "Yeah... I have..." Max crosses his arms. "Stupid sexist teachers wouldn't even let me audition...I would have made a perfect Juliet" Sam puts an arm around Max, thinking. "Maybe you could audition for Mercutio! He and Romeo get a lot of stage time together!" Max looks up at Sam, his eyes still angry. "Do they kiss though?" Sam thinks. "No, but-" "then I'm not interested..." Sam sighs. "Max, look at me." Max looked at Sam, who kissed him gently before looking into his eyes. "I only love you okay? If Jamie tries anything funny with me I'll reject her, alright?" Max blushed, hugging him. "Thank you Sam... I love you..." "I love you too buddy."

Over the next few weeks, Max helped Sam rehearse his part, reading the part of whoever Romeo was talking to in that scene (and enjoying their "rehearsal" of the kissing scenes), and secretly making a little plan of his own for the play. Thankfully, the directors didn't have Sam kiss Jamie during rehearsal, because they wanted to save it for the actual play.

On the night of the play, the director was in a panic, because Jamie and her understudy both just so happened to sprain their ankles right before the performance(totally wasn't because Max had set up traps where they would trip) and now there was no one who could play Juliet.
Well, almost no one.
"What are we going to do?" the teacher asked the director. "I don't know.. Where could we possibly find an emergency Juliet at this hour?" then, who should stroll in but max, all costumed up. "Did someone say emergency Juliet?" he said, batting his eyes. the director eyed him up, sighing. "Max, Do you know the part well enough?" Max nodded. "Most certainly ma'am," The director looked to the teacher, who sighed and nodded, then looked back to max. "Okay, since we're desperate, I guess you can play Juliet." Max smiled and clapped. "Yay!" "Now go take your place!" Max nodded and went.

In the first scene Juliet appeared in, Sam was happily surprised to see Max playing the part and not Jamie. Especially during the party scene, where the two first meet. They performed together perfectly, as if they had rehearsed together all along. As they kiss for the first time on stage, the audience "Awwwww"s. They gave each other their sin all right.
