Me and Tony were walking around the house that my dad had given to us and trying to make some decisions on things. We had written out what we wanted to put where. Granted my dad had taken care of most things, we had to make it out own. Especially since we'd be the ones raising a family in here. I was excited, nervous, grateful, and all. I was standing in the kitchen trying to pick out a theme. I was having an issue debating the color scheme I wanted for real. Tony came up behind me and cradled my belly in his hands. He kissed my cheek.
"So...should we wait to fill these other rooms with kids too." he said laughing.
"I mean I always wanted a bunch of kids, but let's not jump the gun." I said to him with a laugh as well.
"But baby I have to live up to my stereotype. You know what they say about us Ricans." he said just before we both burst out laughing. It was never a dull moment. We didn't know how to be serious half the time, but it made life interesting though.
"You will, after college." I told him and he smiled.
"Okay let's make a deal. We can shoot for another one halfway through?" he said.
"You know there's no haggling with you." I said as he came in front of me and put his arms around me.
"Just let it happen." he said laughing.
"Yeah I need you to sound less rape-y." We both continued laughing.
"I missed this." he told me.
"Me too baby. Me too." I said as I placed my lips to his. It was something about his touch that always made me feel safe. And the kiss that would make me forget everything else. We were standing in the kitchen when we heard the front door open. We looked and my dad and Elizabeth walked in the house.
"Hey Sweet pea. We were driving by and saw the car here. Figured we'd check to see what yall had came up with." he said as they came into the kitchen as well.
"Hey Tony." he said.
"Hello Mr. Smith. Elizabeth." Tony said addressing them both.
"Why so formal?" my dad said to him with a smile.
"Would dad have been better?" Tony asked him.
"It's accurate, but I'm trying to figure out what to have the baby call me. Papa Gio?" We all laughed. I knew he wasn't trying to be called Grandpa. These new age parents.
"That works." Tony said laughing. Elizabeth walked over to me.
"How you doing mama?" she asked me as she rubbed my belly. As soon as she touched me, the baby moved.
"I'm good, getting tired."
"I bet. Feels like he's playing kickball in there." she said and we both laughed at that.
"Yeah, he's really active around this time. Well, until I eat that is." I said.
"Well he gets that from you. You were the exact same way when your mother was pregnant with you." Elizabeth said to me. I smiled at that.
"He must be still a lot though, because you sure have a healthy appetite." my dad said and we laughed.
"Hush." I said trying to control my laughter.
"My lips are sealed." he said.
"Oouuu I think I want some Chinese food." I said. "What you think about that Jr?" I said rubbing my stomach.
"I don't think that's him that wants that, that's all you Love." Tony said laughing.
"Right, wrong type of rice." Elizabeth said and we all laughed some more.
"Right, we eating arroz con gandules y habichuelas over here." he said.
"So you cooking?" I said to him.
"You know I will do it, don't play." he said to me.
"Wait, he cooks too? Yeah, when's the date baby?" Elizabeth said as we all laughed a little bit.
"Good question, have yall selected a date yet?" My dad asked. I looked over at Tony for a moment.
"Well...we hadn't chosen one. I know it's no secret that we weren't in a good place for a while, so we had kind of put that on the back burner for a while." he said.
"So are yall still in that place?" my dad asked Tony. He grabbed ahold of my hand.
"No sir, we're back on track." he said as he stood by my side and placed a kiss to my forehead.
"Good! When yall get that figured out, you have to let me know. Nobody will be able to upstage a Giovanni Smith event." he said proudly as we all laughed. "No seriously, I want my baby to have the wedding that she always dreamed of, so I'll make it happen for sure." He said as he stepped over and kissed me on the cheek.
"Thank you daddy." I said.
"So...yall wanna go grab a bite?" he offered. I looked over at Tony and he looked at me and I nodded.
"Awesome, yall can either ride with us or follow along." Elizabeth said.
"We'll be right behind you." I said as Tony grabbed the keys and locked up as we headed to the car. "So...I really wasn't trying to make that moment awkward or anything. I just didn't know what to say when he asked about the wedding date." I said as we pulled out into traffic behind them.
"It's okay. It wasn't up to you to explain. That was on me, so I did what I was supposed to as a man. Baby, don't even worry about it." he said to me.
"But that isn't entirely true. A lot of what happened was my fault Anthony. I can admit that. The thing is, I don't want you to feel like you're the bad guy here." I told him.
"It takes two LaLa. At the same time, it shouldn't have carried on. That part was all me and you actually were supportive during that time. I know that was a lot on you. I'm sorry for that. But I put this on our son, I will never put you through anything like that ever again baby. You can bank on that." he said looking in my eyes before focusing back on the road.
"I believe and trust you." I told him as I reached over and stroked his hair. He grabbed hold of my hand as we drove to the restaurant.
