Flawless! Man that was the best grand finale that one could ask for in terms of work. Everybody played their position and we only had to shoot that mf at the end, the ones inside were just warning shots. I mean how much more perfect could anything be. I sat down in the studio with Rodney for a moment. He finished mastering Onyx track and the playback was so fire. She left it all there on that song. I know it would spark controversy because she called herself the female Eminem, but at the same time that's how they be viewing white rappers too. But she absolutely had bars so this right here was sure to blow. "That's her breakout track for sure." Rodney said to me and I agreed.
"Yeah Imma have to submit that to the stations ASAP." I said to him.
"Do that! I actually needed to holla at you about something too bruh." I turned my head in his direction. "Alright so I met this artist. Young, hungry and got an edge. You might wanna check him out." he said as he passed me the dude's card. I looked at it for a moment.
"Cinco, huh?" I said knowing this had to be a lil Blood nigga.
"I know what you thinking C-Money but you gotta hear him." he said and I trusted Rodney's opinion for sure so I'll bite. I put the card in my pocket.
"You're adamant, so say less my boy." I said as we shook hands. "So what you gotta do next?" I asked him.
"Paradox's new shit." he said to me.
"Play it back first." I told him.
"...yall look at me different because I have an advantage. Not knowing that using the right tools can still cause damage. Too much pressure, not enough man poof! You obviously believe I got it easy, where's ya proof? I gotta focus to excel for everyone to the side of me. While being told I'm not hood enough for this rap society..." he took a different route. I could tell he was pulling energy from his girl, but I liked it. A lot of us do look at him like he's different, but he still has his own struggles too. Perception is a mf. Just then he walked in the studio himself.
"Oh shit..." he said softly as the song ended and Rodney turned it down.
"That was good son." I told him.
"Different, but I like that. The audience gets to see a different you. It's not just the poetry, you got bars. Most singers can't automatically rap but you did that." Rodney told him. "For real, but now you're building your brand, You showing your range. I like that." I told him.
"Yeah that song right there was risky, didn't know if yall would like it." he said.
"It's like wifey always says 'Great things never come from comfort zones'." I said to him. "I appreciate when all of yall step outside yall normal realms and broaden your horizons. I encourage it for real." I told him. Just then Depth walked in and took a seat at the piano. "What's up sis?" I said to her.
"Man...need some inspo." she said.
"So you not doing it like the rest of the poly-gang? Don't they usually do it all together?" Rodney said to her.
"They do, but essentially we don't make the same type of music so I don't know about that one." she said and she had a point for real. Depth had supreme mellow vibes and Aries and Riek was turnt, and the Araya had soul music. I can see the diversity in that for sure.
"Shouldn't your new found muses be enough inspiration though?" Paradox said and Depth laughed a little bit.
"This is all new to me. I don't know how to feel just yet so I'm gonna have to say no." I happened to look over at her and for the first time she didn't pull up in sweats. I noticed her ripped jeans and shirt on. I got up and took a picture. "Really bruh?" she said laughing.
"I've never seen you like this. This what you been hiding underneath all them clothes?" I said in a joking manner.
"All the clothes in the world never hid all that ass though." Rodney said and we all laughed. Big facts!
"Anyways...Paradox help me out G." she said as they walked out and went into another studio. Me and Rodney continued laughing for a moment.
"That boy Riek is a lucky mf." Rodney said. "Hell it's a good thing Little Man finally said something to Dom or she might've been in there too." We laughed even harder. "Speaking of which, weren't they supposed to be here?" I said looking at my watch for a moment.
"Yeah, they completed their sessions way earlier." he said. Damn...my artists were for sure disciplined to say the least. Didn't have to beat them to get in here or bring forth anything, I must say I was lucky to have ran across this particular group for sure. "Want me to play their shit back?" he asked me.
"Naw, we'll lead with that tomorrow for sure. Thank you though for holding it down." I said to him.
"Say less." he said as I passed him this envelope. "What's this?" he asked.
"A token of my gratitude G." I said as he looked inside and his mouth dropped. "You take care of any and everybody that comes through here man, take care of you. Get yourself something nice Joe." I said to him and he nodded.
"I appreciate you kid." he said as he stuffed it in his pocket.
"Say less." I shot back. That was a moment I had been waiting to have for real. Rodney be rocking with all of us through everything and he deserved every bit of that plus more. Cat was about 30 and has a million other things he could be doing, but he puts his time and effort into each and every artist. Plus he has to deal with me and Iris. Keep your employees happy and they'll keep you happy. At the end of the day, we are all a team.
