"Have you ever loved me?" Chay asks, his voice is shaking.
For a moment Kim does nothing but then he says, "I'm sorry." Kim is pushing Chay away and Chay is watching as the man he loves is turning his back on him.
No! Chay's whole body screams. This is not how their story is going to end! Not today! Not ever!
"That's it?" He shouts at Kim, "that's all you gonna say? You are sorry? Sorry for what exactly? For not loving me? For pushing me away? For lying to me? For hurting me? Or for being a coward? Pick one!"
Chay can see Kim shaking his head, shoulders hanging low, but he is still not turning around. "I'll ask you again, p'Kim. And before you answer think about what I want. I want you! In this fucked up world that I have to live in now I want to have YOU! The only person that makes me feel safe. It's not hia... it's you! Whatever game you are trying to play here... please stop... just stop! Don't you get it? I'm tired. I'm so tired. I—"
"Chay..." Kim finally speaks, his body slowly turning back to Chay, "you are not safe around me."
"I'm not safe anywhere anymore!" Chay cries out. "I'm never going to be truly safe ever again but at least I can FEEL safe with you." He steps closer, if he reaches out his hand he can touch Kim's chest, feeling his storming heartbeat under his ribcage. "So, I'm asking again, p'Kim... have you ever loved me?"
"Yes... I loved you then... I love you now .... and I'm so fucking afraid because I think that I won't ever be able to stop loving you, Chay. And it scares me, it scares me so much because you deserve so much better than me. If... if I won't let you go now, I'm not sure that I would ever be able to do that, Chay... do you understand?"
The words flew out of Kim easier than he had thought. It was all fighting inside of him for so long that he had thought if one day he'd say this out loud, it would be a deadly storm that both of them wouldn't survive. He wasn't expecting those words to be a soft summer rain helping something beautiful to finally bloom.
It started with Chay's breathtaking smile that Kim never expected to see again and then Chay's eyes sparked the way Kim never saw them before.
"You love me... you do love me..." it's barely a whisper as Chay brings their foreheads together, his excited breathing breezing over Kim's lips. "P'Kim, can we go through everything together? Can you promise me to be my safe place and protect me by holding me close instead of pushing me away? Can you love me freely?"
"Us, together?" Kim whispers, afraid to speak any louder.
Chay nods and with a trembling heart, he lets their lips meet for the first time.
