Chapter 18: Losing You

It was now 9:45 and Jason should've been home. Dinner was getting cold and I had already bathe and fed Harley. He didn't call or text me to tell me he was going to be late which worried me.
"Where is daddy angel" I said to Harley as I rocked her in my arms looking out the window. I grabbed my phone and called him yet again.
"Pick the phone J" I said as it just rang and rang and rang as it went to voicemail again. I was now scared because he never sent me to voicemail more than once and he would text me or call back. I called his business partner hoping to see what was going on.
"Hello" he answered like he was sleeping.
"I'm sorry to call you this late Nate but I was wondering if you knew where Jason was" I asked hoping to get an answer
"Nah we left the meeting around 7 and he said he was going home" my heart dropped so fast
"Are you sure Nate. It's almost 10 and he hasn't called or nothing" I said trying to stay calm as I held Harley who was now sleeping.
"Yeah. All he talked about was getting home back to you and lil mama. But I'll try and call and see if he answer. I'll let you know if I find out anything" he said as I laid Harley down in her bassinet getting myself dressed.
"Please do. Thanks Nate" I hung as I called Jen.
"Hey girl" Jen answered on the first ring
"Jen I need you to come and watch Harley for me" I said as I grabbed my purse getting myself together.
"Ok I'm on my way" she said asking no questions. Thankfully she lived 5 mins away and it didn't take long for her to get over.
"What's going on Hue" she said taking off her shoes.
"Jen I think something is wrong with Jason. He hasn't answered my calls or txt and Nate said his meeting ended at 7 and was on his way home." I said trying to hold on to my tears.
"I hope he okay. That's not like Jason at all" she said as I agreed with her.
"Jen I'm scared. What if something happened to him. Jen we just had a baby and were posed to get married" I said as I cried thinking the worst "he never does this. Never so that means it's bad. I can't loose him Jen. What am I going to do." I sobbed as she hugged me
"Hue it's going to be okay. I'll watch Harley and you go find him. Don't both of you have tracking devices on yall cell phones for emergencies" she said as I remembered the day and why we got them. Jason didn't feel comfortable knowing my father was looking for me so he told me to put one on my phone and he did the same just to make me feel better.
"Yes that's right. I almost forgot" I never used it cause I trusted Jason and knew I had no reason to even turn it on till now. I kissed Harley and headed out the door.

I pulled up at the hospital 15 minutes away from Jason's office. The gps stopped here and cut off because I was close to the location. I turned off my car as I sat there.
"Dear God, I pray that Jason is ok. Please don't take him away from me God. I need him and Harley needs her daddy. God I pray that he is okay. Amen. I said before heading inside the emergency room.

"Do you need to be seen or visiting" the lady at the front said to me as she saw me shaking.
"Ummm.... I'm looking for my fiancé" I managed to get out.
"What's his name sweetheart" she said as she went to her computer
"Jason Thomas" I responded
"Yes Mr. Thomas is here. He is in room 195" she said giving me directions.
"Do you know what's happened" I asked nervously
"He was in a car accident. Car came across the intersection and rammed him. We believe it was a drunk driver" she said as she held my hand "he's ok sweetie. God was on his side cause they had to get him out. He was unconscious" I wanted to curl up and hide. I couldn't imagine what he was going through.
"I need to see him" I said wiping my eyes as she walked me to his room. I stood at the door for a minute before opening it. I saw him laid on the bed with bruises and scratches on his face. His right leg was bandaged up as he laid there sleeping.
"My baby" I said softly approaching the bed. I let my tears fall as I caressed his face.
"I'm so sorry this happened baby. I'm sorry" I said as locked my hands with his. I couldn't believe this.
"Ma'am are you his wife" the nurse said as she came in
"Yes. Has he woken up yet" I asked still staring at him
"Briefly but he kept saying something over and over again right before he went unconscious again" she said as I rubbed his cheek "I think it was something being beautiful. We were hoping that you could tell us what I that meant" she said as I smiled at him
"It's me. That's what he calls me" I said to her never turning my back to him
"Oh how sweet. Well he's doing ok and has minor injuries. He might be in a lot of pain when he gets up but he's a lucky man" the nurse said as she updated his charts.
"Thank you so much" I said as she left closing the door.
"Wake up for me baby. I need you" I said to him as I kissed his forehead. I got no response but I knew he could hear me. Jason and I had a connection nobody could explain. I kept talking to him as I waited.
"J you know I was so worried about you " I said as I heard the machines beep holding his hands. "I can't live without you baby. I was so scared" I said as time just went by and by. The nurse came in to check on him.
"Ok so his vitals are normal but still waiting on him to wake up" she said as she switched his IV bag
"Why is it taking him so long" I said concerned. I had been there for 7 hours.
"It's all on how he feels and how his body is reacting to the medication and when he feels ready" she said marking on her charts As she walked to the door.
"Is it ok if I lay next to him" I asked wanting to be closer to him
"Yes ma'am. No problem" she said as I got up to get in with him. I laid my head in his chest as I dosed off.

8:00am.
I woke up and decided to call Jen and tell her what was going on and to check on Harley. I went back to his side. I held his hand as I watched him just lay there. The machines were driving me crazy as I just heard that annoying beeping hour after hour.
"J come on baby wake up" I said to him rubbing his chest. Whenever we were at home and he didn't want to get up that would do it. I kissed his lips softly telling him I loved him. I didn't want to eat drink or do anything until he was up. All day I just sat there watching his every move.
"Can we get something Mrs. Thomas" the nurse said peeking her head in the door
"No I'm fine. Thank you" I said not turning around
"You sure you don't wanna go home and come back. We can keep an eye on him while you're gone.
"She asked. I haven't left since last night and I didn't plan on it.
"No im not leaving" I said as she just nodded closing the door. I sat there as my eyes got heavy. I dosed off in the chair holding his hand.

6pm
The nurse checked him again as she recorded it down on her papers. They all said the same thing. He was fine and just be patient for him to wake up. I was getting worried that he won't ever wake up. I stared at the ceiling as I felt him squeeze my hand weakly over and over. I hit the nurse button as I stood up.
"Baby I'm here" I said as I squeezed back. The nurse came as he stared to open his eyes slowly adjusting to the light.
"Mr. Thomas blink once if you hear me" he blinked once.
"Ok. Blink 2 times if you know where you are" he blinked twice
"Mr. Thomas do you know the woman sitting next to you. Blink once for no or 3 times for yes." She said as he sat there. He blinked only once. My heart broke. He didn't know who I was. He started to open his mouth as he coughed. I gave him some water to clear his throat.
"Be...beautiful" he said as my heart melted. He gripped my hand as he looked over at me.
"Yes baby that's right" I said so happy he was up. The nurse cleaned his wounds and removed some of the needles off him as they sat him up leaving him with plenty of fluids.
"Drink some more babe" I said as I gave him some more water.
"Thank you" he said as he was getting his voice back together. I couldn't help but stare at him
"I must look that bad" he said as I smiled at him.
"No baby you some cuts and stuff but you still look good" I said kissing his cheek.
"I'm sorry I worried you beautiful. I heard you while you spoke to me" he said as I kissed his hands.
"It's ok baby. I just knew something wasn't right" I said giving him more water.
"I was on my way home and all I can remember was my light turning green and everything went black after that" he said
"That's crazy. They said a drunk driver came and hit you. They had to pull you out the car J" I said to him as he shook his head. "I'm just glad you ok. I thought I lost my best friend" I said as I tears came down my face. He reached up and wiped my tears.
"I'm still here beautiful. I'm never leaving you or my chubby princess. I miss her so much" he said. I knew he couldn't wait to get her in his arms
again.
"She misses you too baby. Jen is watching her till we get home which they said won't be long" I said fixing his pillow
"I hope I hate being in hospitals and the food suck" he said as we both laughed. "Come here" he said to me as he made room for me in the bed. He reached up and kissed my lips softly. He kissed me with so much passion and as I sucked on his bottom lip.
"I missed you J" I said running my thumb over his lips
"I missed you more. I heard you talking and felt you next to me. I just couldn't reach you. I heard the nurses telling you to go home too. I wanted to tell them to quit asking cause I know you stubborn." He said kissing my nose.
"I would never leave my baby. Nothing could've made me leave this room" I said staring at him.
"I know cause you love me that much" he said as I smiled.
"I do baby" I said planting small kisses on his lips. He pulled me closer as he whispered in my ear.
"So does this mean you goin give me some" he said as I laughed and hit his chest softly.
"J seriously" I just shook my head. "Not in here" I said back blushing
"Aight. When we get home than. Deal?" He said with his hand out to shake in it
"Ok deal" I said shaking his hand as he pulled me back into his embrace
"I'm so glad you're ok baby " I said laying my head in his chest.
"You have no idea beautiful" he said as we were both were so grateful to have each other.
"Thank you God" I said to myself as I was so lucky I got this nightmare over with.
