The snow started to fall all over the beast world.

This is the season that every beasts hate for this is the season when a lot of beast men die, hence why it's called dead season.

It would be good in the beginning of the season for every village and kingdom have already prepared for it. Many have stocked food so even if they can't go out their homes, they will still have food to eat. Meat last longer during dead season because of the cold, that's probably the only good thing this season brings.

Since it's very cold outside, those who have mates take advantage of this season to have cubs. Since bodies rubbing against each other creates heat, most of them prefers to mate, just to stay warm during the day, moreover in the coldest nights. Those who doesn't have mates will still do the deed, either with other single beast men or those who have official mates who wants to have more partners joining the heat exchange. Orgies were created, just to satiate their need for warmth from other bodies, won't matter if a male beast man is rubbing against another naked male.

The season would get challenging as it goes on and reach the first quarter.

Most small villages are saving their food for they don't have enough. This is the time when most males will give their food to females and cubs. If they have enough to spare, they would also share it to old beast men.

The situation changes at mid season, when food is now scarce and some of the strong beast men of every village will venture outside to hunt or gather if it's even possible. But this would also be the time for wild beasts to wander around, mostly carnivores. Survival now depends on who's stronger to survive. The loser will be the food of the winner.

This is where it also gets tricky. For many beast men take this as an advantage to pillage other villages. Since their strong beast men were out to hunt, many evil beasts will rob these defenseless villages. If they can't give anything useful to these thieves, some would resolve to cannibalism for food and snatch all the females that they have.

These snatched females would be brought back with these thieves' village and will be shared by the whole village males. They would have additional means to stay warm during the cold, might get lucky when they get these females pregnant for their race to continue.

It will worsen as the season reach the last quarter. No one is safe. It would be either kill or be killed. Survival of the fittest is tested. And this goes on until the dead season ends. That's one hundred and eighty three days of gloom and despair.

It is different now for the kingdom of Baylor. Since Chiron has learned from Asha the benefits of fire, he has already shared this knowledge to all of his fellow beast men in Baylor. With the help of their king, they all have prepared and were ready even before dead season started.

Carnivores have planned to attack to rob Baylor. Herbivores have been always easy targets during this season even if they belong in a small kingdom but since the kingdom is knowledgeable with using fire, all of these ignorant carnivores fall back. They planned to pillage other villages and small kingdoms instead. That season, Baylor didn't have any casualties. All of their herbivores were hungry but remained safe.

The kingdom of Byakko was still busy as ever, especially Huye. His secret escorts that he sent out came back before dead season start. The escort he sent to Adira found out nothing. The sea of Varuna was silent. All the mermen that were seen patrolling before were gone. It only made Huye more suspicious for he knows how sneaky and manipulative Merrik is.

As for the one he sent for Baylor, he went back with a few grey wolves who were left living in the wolf village. Huye was surprised with what he found out as the wolves told him what happened at Baylor. Yes, Barda is definitely dead but it was a bird female with extraordinary ability who killed him head-on. These wolves thought they'll be allowed to live in Byakko but as soon as Huye got all the information he needs, they were all sent to the dungeons and got killed.
