Chapter 150 - The Bridges Guild

Shay spits some blood after receiving Souta's punch right on his face. He didn't dodged it but received it without any hesitation. He felt guilty for having Baylor experience a great loss when they were attacked by Barda. He saw everything happened and did nothing. He wonders if he could have been of great help to Asha back then if he showed himself at that time and helped. But what has been done is done. He can't change the past. He'll do everything that he can to help his wife and change the future. The path to her dream is difficult, but he always believed that with his wife's determination and strength, nothing is impossible.

Shay stood there, receiving every blow from Souta. He thinks that the punches and kicks he is receiving is not enough in exchange for the many lives that families who lives in Baylor lost. He's ready to receive a beating from the king of Baylor.

"You... do you enjoy looking down on all of us herbivores? Do you think we do not know and feel how you carnivores discriminate us herbivores? Is it because we do not eat meat? Is it because we can be your reserve food when you cannot find wild beasts to eat? Me and my fellow beast men have lived our lives quietly. We have been silent even when carnivores mock us right on our faces. Even I as king is being a subject of this mockery whenever all the kingdoms and villages gather their leaders for a peace agreement. But have you carnivores thought about following it? Is that why you keep on attacking our kingdom and trying to take over us herbivores? And for what? What do you all want with us? Do you want to use all of us herbivores as slaves and reserve food for you all carnivores? Do you all think that just because we kept our silence, you can all do whatever you want with all of us? We ungulates have allied together to protect all kinds of herbivore beast men. This... This treatment you carnivores give us should stop... all of you should die in exchange of the lives we have lost because of all your greed!"

Giada hugs Souta's trembling body to stop her mate. He is full of rage, resentment, sadness and disappointment. Magnum is trying to hold back as he watch his king in rage. He knows that Souta is a good-natured and easygoing horse beast man but everybody has a limit with their patience. His king needs to release this anger he is feeling right now. Magnum is angry too but he feels sorry for a bit as he watch the hawk beast man that remains standing there, receiving every hit he can without retaliating. Shay is trying to catch his breath, cuts and bruises can now be seen all over his body. He keeps on coughing blood. His head bowed slightly, just waiting for the beating to stop.

"I know how you feel Your Grace. I know that saying sorry would not be enough to quell your anger against my kind. I have been blind, a deaf and a fool for working under such an evil and deceitful tyrant. And I am here to mend my shameless ways. I will try my best to help Baylor. Thanks to my wife, she opened my eyes to view things differently. She helped my ears to listen and be open and understanding to everybody's voice and perspective. I can say that I have changed but those are just mere words. Like what my wife taught me, action speaks louder than words. I will prove to you Your Grace that I am an ally and not a foe."

Souta heaves a deep sigh. Meeting a lot of beast men in his whole life made him more aware if someone is being true to what they do and say to him or if they are just being fake. And being a subject of mockery is one he is very familiar with. Even if he's king, the way carnivores and omnivores treat his kind is always the lowest of the low. Herbivores will always be at the bottom of the food chain. But with everything Shay told him, he can feel his straightforwardness is sincere. He knows that not all carnivores are like Huye and he has experienced that camaraderie first-hand with the two saviors of Baylor. They treated his kind with respect and humility. The heroes of Baylor are omnivores but they will always have a place in their hearts. Maybe, he should give this hawk beast man in front of him a chance. Asha will never even accept him as her husband if she knows that this beast man doesn't deserve a second chance.
