Chapter 149 - Strengthening the alliance *

Why is this cautious feeling not going away? Am I being followed already?

Shay descended as he reached the gates of Baylor. He didn't even stop flying for the bad feeling bothered him since he flew out of Byakko. It just lessened when he is certain that he is too far from the kingdom. But the feeling never left.

Since he upgraded his stars to nine, all his senses have heightened. And the feeling of being the one hunted is new to him for he always play the role of the hunter. This just made him more cautious. He doesn't like the feeling of the one being the prey and the one being observed. As a spy, he should be the one observing, hunting.

He morphed to his perfect form and wore his wrap around skirt as he walk towards the gates. His proud gait and stoic expression made the guards watching over at the entrance made them alert.

"Identify yourself! Carnivores are not allowed to enter the kingdom of Baylor!"

The other guard held his pointed wooden staff at Shay, "the dead season ended. Do you dare trespass our kingdom like the other carnivores who planned to attack us? We will use fire to stop you."

That's when Shay noticed two fire pits burning brightly from both sides of the entrance. This made Shay impressed for these herbivores are using what they have learned from his wife. He felt proud for Asha but didn't let it show on his face.

"I am Shay, a hawk beast man. I have been buying and selling things before. Do you not remember me? I only left because I have to migrate before dead season starts. I am a friend. You can ask the head guard. He knows me."

The guards whispered at each other and let the other one run to get Magnum. The other one left at the gate stood careful and remained on his guard while looking at Shay.

"Wait here until we can verify your identity. We have orders that carnivores are not allowed to even set foot inside the kingdom."

Shay nods and looks around the outside of the gates. He can see roaming guards that hold wooden torches. It seems that Baylor has been attacked during dead season but was successful to defend because beast men are afraid of fire. He fixes the sling on his chest that made the green crystal pendant of his necklace shine brightly when the sun's rays hit it. Shay held it with his hand as he looks at it, smiling. It feels warm not like his surroundings which still feels cold, the snow still melting away to welcome the wet season. He can't help but kiss the pendant while thinking and missing his wife.

Are you doing well my darling wife? I will send you a letter as soon as I get the chance. I am missing you more and more as the days pass....

Magnum arrived with the previous guard. He looks at Shay from head to foot. He recognized this carnivore and he knows that he always stay inside their kingdom from time to time, buying and selling food, just like the two couple that saved Baylor.

"Greetings my fellow beast man. Do you plan to buy and sell things in Baylor? I am afraid you will not be able to do it at the moment for the king has commanded that carnivores are not allowed to enter the gates."

Shay bows slightly and looks at Magnum with seriousness. Magnum can feel his nine-starred aura that made him surprised a bit. But even though it was subtly radiating off his body, Magnum don't feel any malice or danger from him. But still, the horse beast man remained on guard.

"I am here for a different purpose. Can I ask you something privately? I have no ill intentions. I think you will understand why...,"

Shay inconspicuously showed the pendant he is still holding that made Magnum a bit surprised. He felt that familiar warm aura again that have protected him, his sister and his nephew before. How he miss and long for this aura to be back again.
