Chapter 146 - Half truths, half lies *

"You have a lot of explaining to do Shay."

"What do you want me to explain Your Grace?"

Shay already knows what this is all about. But he has to get through this hurdle and make it believable for Huye to get his suspicions lessen and drop his guard down again. He knows that even after he get through this, he will get followed secretly by one of his secret escorts. He is ready though. Huye might be king but even as king, he has his limitations. He won't be living this secured and carefree if not for all the spying all of them birds are doing for him to keep watch every move beasts all over the world are doing. This vile and manipulative bastard needs to be taken down from his high chair. He already thought of a way to turn the tables around. He needs to sacrifice one information he's keeping and distract Huye. Half truths and half lies, he'll do anything to make this believable. Shay needs to stay focused and keep up with his mask to continue what he is doing.

Huye hits the table with his fist and looks at Shay angrily.

"Why you... you do not know what you have to explain? You report for the last cycle is incomplete. You thought I will not be able to know that a female killed Barda? Explain why you did not disclose this information to me."

"Because you will not believe me if I told you Your Grace. Anyone who would hear it will laugh at me. Can you imagine a female killing an eight-starred wolf? I would be laughed at by everybody who will hear if I told Your Grace what I have witnessed. You might even think twice if I am just slacking off from spying and remove me from my post. I will need evidence to prove it before I tell you. This is one reason why I did not join my kind to migrate. I need to catch up and find that female. I need to get evidence before I can prove to you what I saw."

Huye leans back as he watch Shay. As expressionless as he can be, Shay didn't show any emotion like how it is expected from him as he explains. Huye taps his finger while he looks at Shay.

"So... have you found the female and got the evidence you needed?"

Shay bows slightly, "I am sorry Your Grace but I failed. A lot has happened when I was looking for her and her group. I got caught in the middle of a disaster at the waters in the East. I got thrown off the edge of the world and got trapped when I tried to save a female who was about to drown."

Huye and the guards were surprised.

"But... you survived? How? Is it not the entrance to the underworld?"

"I never thought I would be able to survive and even get out. No light can reach that place where the edge of the world led me. I got trapped in a very huge cave with the female I saved. It felt like we were trapped for a very long time that I do not even know what season or cycle it is. I need to survive. I was stuck there for too long and the female with me became my mate. It felt like tens of cycles had passed when I trained myself to get stronger so I can get both of us out of there. But then, the whole place began to crumble for some reason. That is how we get to escape that place."

"You have a mate now? Where is she?"
