Did Someone Say Avoi-Dance?

Monday rolled around faster than I had intended. Four days from the dance and I dodged every man that looked like he might even possibly ask me to the dance like my life depended on it. Was it shitty to them? Yes, but I didn't particularly care. I planned on going stag or asking Vivi to go as friends.

Then I watched Nami work up the courage to ask Vivi to the dance.

I knew that Nami was head over heels for her. Called it!

I giggled in the lunchroom as they chatted about the dance and coordinating. I felt like I was being watched as I settled in the corner to give the girls space, but I went to eat as usual anyway since I had been feeling like that all day. I groaned as I realized I had forgotten a drink while I was up. I glanced at the line that wrapped the lunchroom and sighed.

"Sunny!"

I turned just in time to see Luffy launch himself at me, barely catching him in my arms. He snuggled into my chest as usual and hummed. I shook my head with a sigh as I pat his head. I learned the hard way he wouldn't ever let go until I had put my hand on his head in some way.

"Hey Lu, what's up?" I asked.

He looked up at me and frowned. "Why are you grumpy?" he responded. "I'll fix it for you! I don't like it when you get upset," he whined.

I let out a sigh. I had been doing that a lot lately. "Just tired of everyone staring at me," I grumbled. "I just wanna eat my lunch."

He looked at me seriously for a moment before nodding. "I'll be back!"

I rolled my eyes as he ran around the room. What he did was none of my business right that second and my food was calling my name. I went to take a bite when I suddenly felt every eye disappear from my back, one by one. I was surprised but grateful, and at the same time disturbed. There was no commotion or big distraction. Just an odd and all consuming sense of peace.

Then a dangerous presence. One that was running at me.

I turned and saw Luffy, no one with him or around him that could possibly hold such an aura. I was reminded of the one other time something like that happened before getting derailed as Luffy buried his face into my chest again. I looked at him confused as he beamed up at me.

"Did I do good?" he asked excitedly.

I took a glance around and all of the guys that had been staring were turned away or had left. "I guess so, Lu. Now I'm just missing-"

He held up a (can/bottle/carton) of (f/d). "I saw you didn't have one so I got one from Sanji! He might be here to yell at me soon though so before he gets here-"

"LUFFY!"

He set the drink down just as he got yanked away from me and scolded by a very angry Sanji, all while nervously giggling.

Tuesday was much quieter. Startlingly quieter.

It was unsettling.

I finally sat down in Chemistry but realized Perona no longer sat next to me. The seat was empty as I saw Drake sit down on the other side of the room with a grumble and a yelp from his new seatmate. He was always so quiet and gentle around me that I all but forgot his reputation as a delinquent that hits first, talks second.

A breath of heady cologne and faint antiseptic hit my nose and I looked to see Law settling into the seat next to me. He gave me a small smile and pulled out his notebooks before Mr. Caesar glided to the board and began his rambling lecture.

I did my best to pay attention until he started talking about his experiments again, droning about how he was the most brilliant scientist to ever live and we should be grateful that he had graced us with his teaching. I rolled my eyes quietly and tried to go over the few formulas he had taught before getting derailed but I was quickly distracted when a little note slid over my book.
