Nangong Jue and his party had originally tracked the trail of a dragon to this location, only to find a surge of malevolent and spiritual energy rising into the sky. Nangong Jue initially intended to observe the situation but was unable to sit idly when demonic energy appeared. He immediately took to his sword and rushed over.
Upon arrival, he saw someone engaged in battle with a shadowy figure, who also appeared to be a disciple of the Immortal Gate. The demonic energy was emanating from this shadowy figure.
Nangong Jue was somewhat surprised, but even more astonished when he recognized a familiar figure in the battle—an acquaintance from the Tianyan Sect, Ruan Li, whose appearance was clean and decisive.
Seeing Ruan Li injured, Nangong Jue quickly took action to intervene and was aiming to catch the person who had been thrown away.
Unexpectedly, instead of catching the person, he was kicked away by a woman who seemed to have appeared from nowhere.
Nangong Jue, who prided himself on his considerable cultivation, was stunned to find himself completely unable to retaliate against the kick and was sent sprawling.
What was even harder for him to accept was that he had lost control of his body and tumbled helplessly before managing to stand up.
"Young Master."
"Junior Brother."
Several disciples from the Chongxu Sect rushed over to help Nangong Jue.
However, Nangong Jue stopped them. He stood up, brushed off the dust from his clothes, and looked up at Luo Qingci with a complex expression in his eyes.
At this moment, Luo Qingci was too preoccupied with stopping the male lead from heroically saving the damsel to feel any sense of relief. She noticed Ruan Li in her arms, with five blood holes on her left shoulder bleeding profusely.
Luo Qingci pursed her lips, then pressed her hand on Ruan Li's shoulder to stop the bleeding. She turned to face the Pao Xiao, her left hand firmly blocking its demonic energy. Seeing its appearance, Luo Qingci frowned and said, "How dare you come to wreak havoc in the mortal realm instead of staying in the demon world? You're asking for death."
With that, she channeled her energy and dispersed the three streams of demonic energy.
Her voice was cold with anger, which made Ruan Li, who was in her arms, momentarily stunned.
Ruan Li, whose forehead was sweating with pain and whose face was pale, seemed to be oblivious to everything else, staring blankly at the person with most of her face covered by a mask.
She could not hear the anxious calls from Su Yu and others, nor did she process what Luo Qingci was saying.
The earlier comment about men and women not engaging in physical contact, combined with the masked appearance and the ability to fend off the Pao Xiao's attack, made her mind scream one name: Chi Qing.
She thought she was only thinking about it, but she unconsciously murmured it out loud.
However, Luo Qingci was so focused on avenging her beloved disciple and the little dragon cub that she did not notice the murmur.
The Pao Xiao, injured and enraged, revealed its true form in a flash. It was a giant creature nearly twenty feet long, towering half a head above Luo Qingci.
Its body was still shrouded in black mist, and it lifted its body. Its face, resembling a human's, had eyes that were merely decorative, with the real eyes located under its armpits, one of which was bleeding continuously.
