She lowered her head, tears filling her eyes, yet she managed to smile. "I said I'd let you go, but I still felt unwilling. I wanted to see you, so I came to Chaisang."
Yun Xuan's eyes were red and full of bitterness. "Even now, saying you're unwilling doesn't change anything. Meng Zhou, either be resolute and bind me to your side with the contract, or consider me dead. Stop torturing each other, okay?"
She knew Meng Zhou couldn't bear to part with her, but Yun Xuan couldn't bear it either. She hated the contract but had never blamed Meng Zhou; she had done everything she could to protect herself.
However, Meng Zhou had her master, her sect, and the human race behind her. Yun Xuan had no choice but to preserve her remaining boundaries by not harming her own kind.
But now that the dragon race was rising and the conflict between dragons and humans was escalating, the disciples of Six Odd Pavilion had completely changed their attitude towards dragons under contract. Those who refused to slaughter their kin could not find a place there.
Once she left Six Odd Pavilion, given the current situation, humans, who feared and despised dragons, would never coexist peacefully with her. She was in a bind.
She was already struggling in a mire, but Meng Zhou was not. She could not be so selfish as to drag her down with her.
She had done enough for herself.
Meng Zhou heard this and tried to force a smile, but it was difficult. Her gaze remained fixed on Yun Xuan, filled with pain and an inescapable attachment. She didn't want to choose either way.
"Ha, we don't have the patience to listen to your and your servant's heart-to-heart talk. Yun Xuan, if you really want to cleanse your humiliation, you should deal with her yourself. We'll collect the body and give you a proper name in the dragon race," said the Red Dragon, his tone full of disdain. He hated dragons entangled with humans, and he could not accept dragons who feared for their lives and submitted to humans. It was a betrayal of the kin who were persecuted to death.
Yun Xuan's expression grew stern. She gripped her sword and pointed it at her kin, biting her lip and speaking through clenched teeth, "I cannot comply!"
Seeing Yun Xuan's obstinacy, the Red Dragon and Blue Dragon no longer spoke, their eyes gleaming with hostility, ready to engage Yun Xuan in combat.
Meng Zhou knew Yun Xuan's strength, and she could not handle both dragons together.
She clenched her right hand, her gaze fixed on Yun Xuan, her breathing growing more rapid. Finally, she closed her eyes and suddenly stood up, supporting herself with the tree behind her.
She raised her right hand, a pattern of runes emerging on her palm. "Stop!"
A burst of formation light appeared around Yun Xuan, and her sword came to an abrupt halt. The command from the contract owner was something Yun Xuan, as a contracted spirit beast, could not defy. She turned to look at Meng Zhou with disbelief.
The last time Meng Zhou had used the contract command on her was twenty years ago. She had vowed never to use the contract power again, but she had ultimately broken that vow.
The sudden change startled the Red Dragon and Blue Dragon, and Yun Xuan was even more incredulous. She knew the contract was the source of her suffering, and it made no sense for Meng Zhou to enforce it in front of the dragon race.
Meng Zhou did not intend to stop. She looked at Yun Xuan with a smile, full of relief and resolve, which only deepened Yun Xuan's anxiety.
Was Meng Zhou afraid she couldn't handle the Blue Dragon and Red Dragon?
