Endeavour was trying to be a better man for his children. That was something no one could really say otherwise on. While some would argue and say that he didn't deserve to try again, he would still try anyway.
And with these tries, Endeavour found himself walking through the halls of UA bright and early on a Thursday morning. He was here for a list of reasons -ones mostly Shoto had compiled for him to do. One of them being that Shoto had asked his father if a friend or two could join him on his hero agency and so Endeavour came to UA to ask permission for this.
But one of the more important reasons, was for checking up on his kids. Plural, yes.
You see, one of them had been shot recently, so checking up on her would probably be for the best. He wasn't really sure how she would be after a few days, given she had overdosed on adenosine -yet somehow survived, then still had 2 more surgeries for her stomach over the bullet. And she also cauterized the wound twice and took out 4 of the 6 fragments of the bullet too.
It was that day that Endeavour realized just how strong he had trained that girl. Of course, it wasn't all him, but he knew damn well the desensitization of it was his fault.
He expected Komi to be a little moody, maybe less smiley too.
"Enji!" He didn't expect to hear his name shouted almost gleefully in the hallway.
Komi had woken up today, maybe with the best feeling in her bones. The light was shining in on her room, and the way it light up her room through its small cracks made her smile. And the birds outside her window were singing with such sweet voices, and her breath didn't stink when she woke too. When she washed her face, she found no minor flaws, Sato had woken up early and made waffles, she saw a butterfly or two when she walked to UA and the weather just felt perfect.
Komi, currently felt perfect.
Her hair was well-behaved and shiny. Things felt good. Komi felt happy.
Who cares if she was shot, big deal!
And as she walked into UA, through the halls and up the stairs, she saw the figure of a man she knew very well, and the happy feeling didn't leave. In fact, it stayed in a way that was very foreign to Komi. Foreign in a way that she's never been happy around Endeavour.
"Enji!" She smiled widely as she jogged up to him. He turned, and faced the girl with a hint of surprise on his face.
But what was more surprising, was the way Komi hugged Endeavour.
She saw him, still felt happy, made her way over to him, still feeling happy. And she hugged him. Still feeling happy. What voodoo whoo-doo shit was this?!
About 3 seconds in, Komi's face dropped and she realized what she was doing and she pushed herself back off him, just trying to move on.
"How are you?"
Endeavour didn't know how to react much. The girl he was so sure that hated him, and for good reason, had hugged him with a smile on her face and he didn't even hear a bomb ticking. And then she asked how his day was going?
A small smile fell on Endeavour's face. "I'm fine, just here to check on your wellbeing."
A wellbeing that so far felt like she was perfectly fine. Like she hadn't even been shot, nor gone through all the moment she had just gone through and what should've traumatized her.
A secret that Komi wouldn't find out until a few years later, was that the news and reporters were some of the worst people for Komi. The way they found millions of ways to blame her for so much stuff she wasn't even thinking about. And with no interview being done with Komi holding the center space for it, she didn't feel as bad because people weren't making her feel bad.
They spoke for a little more until the warning bell rang and Komi ran off to her school before Aizawa would expel her. He would. He did would not care that she was shot, if she was late, she was late.
Endeavour said her goodbyes to her, and watched her leave for a moment before turning around and continuing on his way to the Principal's office.
