A/N: I hope this matches the vision?!?? MINORS BYE BYE!!
The first thing you registered was pain. It radiated through your body in waves, sharp and insistent, demanding attention you weren't ready to give. Your lungs burnt as you dragged in a breath, sand, salt and something copper tasting that must have been blood.
The world tilted and swayed even though you weren't moving, and for a disorienting moment, you couldn't tell if you were still at sea or if the ocean had finally released you. Your fingers dug into something solid. Grainy. Warm from the sun you couldn't yet see. Sand. You were on sand.
Another breath, deeper this time, and with it came the crash of waves against shore. The cry of gulls overhead. The whisper of wind through what sounded like trees, their leaves rustling in a rhythm that almost sounded like voices. You forced your eyes open.
The sky above was aggressively blue and cloudless. You turned your head, a mistake, as it sent a spike of agony through your temple, but you still forced yourself to take in your surroundings through vision that blurred at the edges.
Beach. Definitely a beach. The sand stretched out on either side of you, and beyond it, dense forrest and stone that looked vaguely threatening. How long had you been here?
You tried to sit up and immediately regretted it. Your right arm screamed in protest, and when you looked down, you saw why. A gash ran from your shoulder to your elbow, crusty with dried blood and sand. Your shirt, or what remained of it, was torn and stained. Salt water had done a number on the wound, and you didn't want to think about infection.
The shipwreck. The memory slammed into you with the force of the wave that had thrown you overboard. The storm had come out of nowhere, as it often did in these waters.
One moment, clear skies and calm seas. Next, black clouds and swells that towered over the vessel like mountains. You'd been below deck when the mast snapped, the sound like a gunshot in the chaos. Water had poured in faster than anyone could bail it out.
You remembered hands grabbing you, shoving you toward the railing. Someone shouting that you had to jump, that staying meant drowning. You remembered the cold shock of the water, the way it had swallowed you whole. The desperate struggle to keep your head above the surface as debris rained down around you.
