"I swear, if Ace asks me one more time if I'm 'eating properly' or 'getting enough sleep,' I'm going to lose my mind" you grumbled, pacing back and forth across the small cabin. "And don't even get me started on how he interrogated me last time about where I've been sailing. Like I'm some rookie who can't handle herself on the Grand Line".
You threw your hands up in exasperation, turning to face your captain. "Two months. It's only been two months since the last meeting, and I'm dreading it, somehow he's only gotten worse since I agreed to these meetings, damn and I thought saving his ass from execution would make him less of a pain, but no, apparently a near death experience just amplified his big brother complex to unbearable levels".
A low, noncommittal hum came from your captain's desk behind you. You spun around, pointing an accusing finger. "Are you even listening to me?". Trafalgar Law didn't bother looking up from his medical journal. "Every word" he answered flatly. "Fire Fist is overprotective. The revolutionary is diplomatically overprotective. Straw Hat talks too much about bugs. You've told me this three times now".
"Because it's frustrating!" You moved closer, leaning against his desk. "Luffy's bug talking is a lot, but he's still Luffy, thank God. Those other two though, Sabo's started with the subtle comments. 'Just checking in' he says. 'Making sure you're doing well' he says". You mimicked your brother's tone with a dramatic flourish.
Law finally glanced up, one eyebrow raised. "And you're telling me this because...?". "Because I need to vent!" You crossed your arms. "Because this time it's not just a quick visit to the Sunny. This time they want to meet on Whitebeard's ship. The Moby Dick. With all the commanders and Yonko himself, and Ace wants to 'properly introduce his baby sister to the family'". You made exaggerated air quotes.
"Mmm. Sounds terrible". Law's attention had already drifted back to his journal. "You have my sympathies". You narrowed your eyes at him. He was being too casual. Too dismissive. Like he thought this conversation didn't involve him. It was time to fix that misconception.
"So we should probably leave in about two days to make the meeting point on time" you said casually, watching his face carefully. Law's eyes didn't leave the page, but you saw his jaw tighten almost imperceptibly. "You should probably leave in two days" he corrected, his tone just a touch too controlled. "I have work to do here".
