A/N: First things first, minors DNI, I don't make the rules sorry!!!
Secondly things second, 32000 words in this chapter, that might be a record lmao! I felt bad about making you wait so long for this, so I added in old and young Rayleigh! For some reason I also seemed to channel, pre timeskip Law I swear, because well.. you'll understand when you read it! Hope you enjoy!
Law The sharp scent of antiseptic clung to the air, mixing with the low thrum of engines beneath the Polar Tang's med bay. You sat atop the exam table, legs swinging, bandages clean but fresh around your shoulder.
Law stood over you, eyes narrowed, the force of his frustration filling every spare inch of space. "You could have bled out". He pressed the last piece of tape to your shoulder with a little more force than necessary, voice flat and cool, but you heard the tremor underneath.
"I don't know how many times I have to say it, you do not go off alone, no matter what you think you can handle". You smirked, trying for nonchalance. "It wasn't even that bad. I've had worse".
Law's jaw tightened. "You're not invincible. You're not stupid, either, so why do you insist on acting like it?" He stepped back, tossing a bloody cloth into the bin, but the movement was too sharp. He was flustered, pacing in a tight, irritated circle.
You watched him, the corners of your mouth twitching up. "I think you just like having an excuse to fuss over me". He snapped his attention back to you, brows drawing together. "This isn't about fussing. I'm your captain, and doctor. If you won't listen to one, maybe you'll listen to the other".
You continued swinging your legs idly, refusing to let his scolding ruffle you. "I always listen. You just talk too much sometimes". He glared, stepping in close, too close, really, the heat of his body seeping through your clothes, his shadow falling over you. "Is this a joke to you?" he asked, voice low, a dangerous edge there.
You looked up at him, grinning, feeling the tension snap tight between you. "No joke, hey, I actually kinda like when you're worried about me, Captain". He scoffed, but the line of his mouth wavered.
"I'm not worried. I'm frustrated because you never-" His words tripped over themselves, faltering as your gaze didn't waver. He lifted his hat and raked a hand through his hair, letting the silence stretch, then finally bit out, "You're not even really listening, are you?"
You let the smile break out full, teeth flashing. "Nope, like I said, you talk too much. We should change that". Before he could even react, you caught him by the front of his shirt and yanked him down, crushing your mouth to his.
It was messy, fierce, full of all the energy he'd been throwing at you, every ounce of pent up worry and irritation dissolving into the heat of your lips. He froze, hands braced on the table on either side of your thighs.
For a second he didn't kiss back at all, just shock and rigid tension, then, suddenly, his grip on the edge of the bed tightened, and he broke the kiss, jerking away like he'd been burned.
