You stepped onto the sprawling campus of Grand Line University, your heart hammering against your ribs with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. The buildings loomed larger than they had during your campus tour, and the throngs of students moving with apparent purpose made you feel impossibly small.
You clutched your paper schedule in both hands, the edges already crumpling from your nervous grip. The morning air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of coffee and the sound of distant laughter.
You'd arrived early, but somehow you were still lost. Your eyes scanned the printed schedule for what felt like the hundredth time. Veterinary Science 101, Room 3B, Morrison Hall. Simple enough, except you had absolutely no idea where Morrison Hall was, and the campus map on the back of your schedule looked more like abstract art than anything helpful.
You walked with your head down, chewing your bottom lip as you tried to match building names with the tiny labels on the map. Maybe if you just followed the flow of students? No, they're all going different directions. Oh god, what if yiu were late on the very first day? What if- The impact came suddenly.
One moment you were squinting at your schedule, the next you'd walked directly into something solid and warm. The papers flew from your hands, scattering across the pathway like oversized confetti. You stumbled backward with a small gasp.
"Woah!". Strong hands caught your shoulders, steadying you before you could fully lose your balance. You looked up, face already burning with mortification, and found yourself staring into a pair of kind, dark eyes beneath a sweep of blonde hair.
"I'm so sorry! I'm so, so sorry!" The words tumbled out in a rush as you immediately dropped your head into a slight bow, hands clasped together. "I wasn't looking where I was going, I was just trying to find my hall and I-"
