Monkey D. Luffy The Thousand Sunny rocked gently beneath your feet as you leaned against the railing, watching the sun dip toward the horizon. The ocean stretched endlessly in every direction, painted in shades of gold and pink that would've been peaceful if not for the absolute pandemonium erupting behind you.
"We should celebrate, don't you think?" Robin's voice had cut through the usual afternoon chatter about two and a half hours ago, her tone carrying that particular amusement she reserved for moments when she knew exactly what kind of chaos she was about to unleash. "New Year's Eve is tonight".
The reaction had been immediate and explosive. Sanji had practically combusted with joy, already rattling off an elaborate menu that would apparently require every ingredient in the kitchen and possibly some that didn't exist yet.
Nami wasn't so pumped as she calculated the recoup cost of Zoro's inevitable sake consumption. Zoro had grinned that sharp, dangerous grin that meant he was absolutely going to drink everyone under the table and enjoy every second of it, and Luffy.. well-
"NEW YEAR'S! That means PARTY! That means FOOD!" He'd launched himself across the deck, rubber arms windmilling. "Hey! Hey! We should play games! All night! No sleeping!"
Which is how you'd ended up here, sprawled on the grass deck with Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper, playing what had started as a relatively normal card game and had devolved into something that defied all logic and several laws of physics.
"That's not how cards work!" Usopp protested, though he was laughing too hard to sound convincing. "It is now!" you shot back, slapping down three cards at once in what was definitely not a legal move by anyone's standards. "Royal crush or whatever it's called!"
"That's poker, not Go Fish!" Chopper squeaked, his little hooves covering his mouth as he giggled. Luffy was lying on his back, legs stretched impossibly long, tangled up like rope, with his arms crossed behind his head. "I like this version better. Regular cards are boring".
"We just don't know the actual rules" you pointed out, grinning at him. "Same thing!" He sat up suddenly, eyes bright. "Let's make it better. Loser has to.." He paused, thinking hard, "has to do a handstand while the rest of us throws grapes at their mouth!"
