"Are you deaf? He said no tomatoes! Are you incompetent as well as deaf?"
"I-Im sorry but i was sure that"
"That's your issue! Less thinking and more doing. How many people have you endangered who might possibly have food allergies?! Are you even qualified to be a chef?!"
The high pitched voice dripping with scorn was becoming a normal part of the Headquarters over the last week, the staff barely batting an eye to the odd pair that their Lord had decided to temporary house. They certainly added some liveliness to the place, even the head of the Guard's expressionless mask cracking a few times due to a few jabs from the child.
The child truly had a mouth on them, no less the three guards a day ending up in tears when they did something that seemed to offend the little one for some reason or another. It was odd at first and many assumed their Lord would reprimand them but nothing of the sort happened.
In the end it became just another daily part of working here, some even taking bets on who would catch the child's ire and be on the end of their devilishly sharp tongue.
"I told you it would be the chef today! Pay up Nancy"
"I was convinced it would be the seamstress. Everyone can see the glares the child gives them when they are near"
"Who knows. Perhaps she will be the second to get ridiculed today. The day is still young after all"
Dream clearly heard everything his staff were saying, it was on the tip of his tongue to reprimand them and teach some manners to the child...and yet he didn't. His mind kept going all over the words the little one threw at him without any hesitation, without even having to think about it when he introduced his full title given to him by the people. The Golden Angel.
'What a pretty useless title. Does anyone actually see you as a person or are you some god who looks down on all these people. 'A Golden Angel'? Sounds like some tripe to imbue fear and gather followers for some cult'
It wasnt anything he hadnt heard before, even Nightmare throwing statements like that at him and of course he occasionally dissenter to his rule which seemed to lower every day thanks to his iron fist control.
But something about the little Dream voicing it was different. The child with his name and burning gaze who seemed to look directly at his SOUL, like they knew every single secret and dug up all his sins to be laid bare before a crowd.
It would perhaps be easier to deal with if there was anger beneath the words, envy, anything that would make it feel more emotional.
...and yet it was said so matter of factly, the child not even trying to wait for him to argue or defend himself. As if simply stating the weather and thats all there was to it. It was confusing, it was infuriating and yet he couldn't help but parse their words all the same and listen to everything they said.
Oddly wise nuggets of wisdom were hidden behind that baby faced child who looked like any other, a sharp mind under it all and he couldn't help thinking how it was a shame he hadn't encountered their AU yet as it seemed to produce rather smart individuals.
Although, their names could be rather confusing or strange, so simply called the two his guests and left it at that, it strange that Palette was apparently a child despite their size. He had doubts but the little one got feral when anyone questioned it and some of the elders actions were rather child-like so the theory was holding more credence then first assumed.
He rubbed his temples at the building headache of dealing with this all, unsure why he was still keeping them here with so much of his paperwork piling up and yet he couldn't bring himself to leave the two's presence and potentially miss any of this.

"This is weird and creepy on so many levels. Don't they know staring is rude?!"
Sun continued his daily rant to Palette's utter amusement, the taller quietly listening as the currently human child complained about every little thing about their stay here, despite it being free and a rather luxurious place to crash.
He did rather enjoy being able to carry the little Dream around without being berated, it rather cute how perceptive yet oblivious they could be. He gently brushed a strand of their hair out of their face, the rant only getting louder but he didn't care. He was experiencing what he wanted, freedom and being seen as himself. Even if the little Dream hissed and cursed him, judging every part of him he was still treated like the babybones he was at heart.
He couldn't tell if it was luck or something else which brought the feral little thing into his life but it changed the path he imagined for himself. He had thought he would be alone most of his life, trying to protect the young in his multiverse and still being all alone while he was looked at like a monster.
He never understood all the complicated rules, why his mother Dream said things needed to be a certain way or why he wasn't allowed to play games and had to do paperwork and attend dull meetings. Naps were also a no go, with so many of his interests pushed aside until he felt no more like a robot than a living being.
It's what caused the first cracks, when he was ignored and seen as something he wasn't. Why he'd experimented with the dream realm inherited by Dream's powers, keeping the bodies of those he saved safe. Creating a safe haven where he could eventually be himself, to have the life he'd always wanted and be-
"Oi! Are you even listening to me?! I can tell your emotions are gong wack. No crazy deals or plans are allowed unless approved by me! We've talked about this and your terrible sense of normal"
Sun bristled at what he perceived as being ignored, baffled when Palette laughed looking at him with an odd look fondness before nuzzling into his hair without a word.
Everyone was so weird and he was the only sane one here, this entire multiverse reeking of ego issues and insecurities stemming from issues that he wouldn't touch with a ten foot poll. His therapy sessions had been useful, his jabs so much more effective now and finally getting people to do what they wanted. Perhaps he could train a servant who wouldn't be utterly useless soon.
Palette smiled fondly, so amusing how the little Dream was so oblivious to their effect on the multiverse, practically tasting the changes in the air and the Code shuddering and shifting as timelines changed nearly every second.
It was strange, somewhat frightening and yet so very delightful!
Not to mention the odd cult he'd heard rumours of, unsure whether to tell Sun about it but as the child continued to rant he decided to wait. He was sure they would love the surprise!
