The kiss was amazing. I know a lot of people say how magical their first kiss was and all that romantic talk, but really I just thought it to be really cliché.
After that first kiss I actually believe it to be true.
It did still seem terribly cliché to me but I didn't care anymore.
I had kissed August Cantwell!Wait I kissed August Cantwell?
He has a girlfriend you idiot. And don't forget she's your best friend!
When we broke away he stared at me until his mobile rang.
"Hello?"
I heard him curse under his breath.
"Roxanne? Look it's not a good time."
I gulped.
"Yes that must be awful but I'm in the middle of something important."
"Of course I care."
"I do! Look can I call you back?"
"No!"
"I said no!"
"Same now let me go please!"
"What's your problem Roxanne?"
"No! Not everything's about you! Other people exist too you know."
"Look Roxanne I NEED TO GO!"
"ROXANNE!"
"Have you ever heard the word privacy? Yeah it's a little thing where you give me a bit of space!"
"Roxanne please, I am just busy. Look I'm sorry but I really have to go."
"I said no."
"Man."
"Poor you."
"Well what else was I to say?"
"Oh flip! Look Roxanne my battery is going."
"ROXANNE ITS ABOUT TO.."
And then he hung up sighing.Soon after my mobile rang.
"Hello?" I answered, quietly.
"Hey July, you up for a coffee?"
"Sorry Rox, I'm stuck babysitting Kiki."
"Oh could I come over?"
"You can't. Kiki's best friend Florence is here too and I have a ton of homework to do. "Can we meet up tomorrow?"
"Ya sure. Starbucks at two?"
"Perfect."
"You wouldn't believe what just happened though."
"Oh no what?"
"Well I won't tell you all the details until tomorrow, but my favourite salon has just closed down and August was just acting like a total jerk!"
"That's awful!"
"Yeah, I know! I better let you go."
"Yeah thanks, tell me the details later."
"Alright bye."
"Bye."
And then I hung up."August?"
"Yeah?"
"Um...."
"I know right."
"Huh?"
"Well I can't think of anything to say either," He sighed.
"Your sister was lucky to have you. You know that right?"
"Thanks," I smiled.
"No I'm serious," He said.
"Thank you," I whispered.
"I um..better go," He stammered.
"Yeah of course," I said.On his way out he turned around we shared another kiss before he left. I didn't understand how something so wrong felt so right. While my lips touched his, the whole world melted away again. His lips were salty and soft. His eyes were chocolaty, brown. I was lost and a song came into my mind. The song he wrote and played at Roxanne's movie night. The long, lasting lyrics refused to end until August walked out the door and took them with him.
