Everything Went Black

I eventually got to sleep again. I was terrified that Amelia wouldn't make it. At four o'clock I was awaken by the telephone ringing downstairs. Calum went and got it. I heard the buzzing of his conversation from my bedroom. He seemed distressed.

He pounded up the stairs once he'd finished talking. He reached my bedroom and hesitated before entering.
"Calum who was that?" I asked.
"Mom," he said.
"What did she want?" I asked, dreading the answer.
"To inform us of Amelia's death ten minutes ago," he replied with a sad look in his eye.
"You mean Amelia is gone?" I cried. I had always taken her for granted.
"Yes," he sighed.

At five o'clock Mom and Dad came in the door. We were both still wide awake. They put their stuff down and came up into my bedroom. Their eyes were red and their faces were all blotchy. It was obvious that they had been crying.

They didn't utter a word for a whole hour and a half. It reminded me of the day that May died. Everything we said was left unanswered by them. Until eventually they spoke.
"This is all Kiki's fault," Dad boomed.
I stepped in immediately.
"Dad I know your hurting but you can't label Kiki for this."
"Kiki has caused nothing but pain in this family, I am glad she's in a fucking coma."
I started at him in horror.
"NO! You c..can't say that, you don't mean it!" I eventually spoke.
"I do. She's a fucking idiot who cares for no one other than herself."
"I agree with your father July. Just accept the truth! She's a selfish bitch!" Mom yelled.

"NO! Don't you see? Ye are the FUCKING IDIOTS! YE ARE THE SELFISH BITCHES! EVERY NAME YOU CALL KIKI IS A DESCRIPTION OF YOURSELVES!"
"JULY BONNIE SUMMER TAKE THAT BACK IMMEDIATELY OR ELSE. I DO NOT ALLOW MY OWN DAUGHTER TO SWEAR AT ME!"
"It's just the truth Dad, a lesson you've always thought me to follow."

Dad then slapped me on the face and kicked my shin.
"Do you regret those words now?" He raged.
"No." I admitted.
He slapped me much harder and my face began to really hurt.
"TAKE IT BACK YOUNG LADY AND APOLOGISE!"
"No."
Tears were spilling from my eyes. Dad just slapped me again for the third time, then the fourth.
"STOP DAD!" Calum yelled, stepping in.
I stumbled back and tripped over Mom's foot. My head banged straight off the wall and everything went black.
