We arrived on time. My parents were already seated but it was only five to six. August took my hand and we walked towards the table.
"Hello August, I'm Mr. Summer, pleased to meet you," Dad smiled.
He had a fancy suit on. Trust him to dress up for this occasion. I mean he was only meeting my boyfriend. Not the Queen of England! He defiantly looked into intimidating, and I had no doubt that, that was his plan.
He kept his eyes on August. They were a light, blue colour and examined August harshly.
"Hello Mr. Summer a pleasure to meet you," August smiled.
"And I'm Mrs Summer, do sit down," my Mum cried. She wore a plain black dress and tall, black high heels. Her auburn hair was let loosely beneath her shoulders and she had a little too much make up covering her pale face. Her eyes stayed on August as well. They were a sparkling, green like mine and didn't examine August quite as harshly as my father's eyes.
"Lovely to meet you as well,"
August and I sat down. I took his hand under the table. He squeezed it gently."So how are you?" Dad asked.
"Great thank you, and yourself?" August said, politely.
I was impressed.
"Great as well thank you,"This sort of talk went on for ages. Things didn't get interesting until after the starters.
"So I gather you like July a lot?" Dad smiled.
"Yes, I do,"
"Well when I saw that kiss, I knew I had to meet you," Dad said.
We both turned red.
"Um Dad..."
He ignored me.
"So how long have ye been dating?" Dad asked.
"Well over a month and a half but I loved her before then," August said.
"Really? When did ye first kiss?"
"Dad you know I can answer these questions at home," I interrupted.
"Well I want to hear them from your boyfriend," Dad snapped.
"Our first kiss was in November," August smiled.
"November? Well why didn't you date then?"
"Well July got suspended and things were pretty hard for me at the time so I never asked her out, I also feared rejection," he said.
"Okay, so your last name is Cantwell correct?"
"Correct,"
"Did you really kiss July eight times on your date?" Mum squeaked.
I sighed, raising my hands in the air and August blushed red.
"Yes,"
An awkward silence fillet he atmosphere around us, but then thankfully our food arrived. We all ate quite quickly."Would anybody like dessert?" Dad asked.
"Oh, yes please," August smiled, gratefully.
"Yes me as well please," I said.
We all ordered our desserts. I simply got a slice of fudge cake. It wasn't as nice as the one from the romantic restaurant but it was still tasty. I gave the ice cream to August, as that was certainly my least favourite food. He smiled gratefully as he wolfed it down."So Mr Summer, what do you work as?" August asked.
"Oh me? I'm geologist," a Dad smiled.
"Really? That's so cool," he smiled.
"Wow, most people find that incredibly boring," Dad said.
So we spent the rest of the night listening to Dad rambling on. Finally it was time to go."Dad I'm going back with August, I'll be home before ten. Is that okay?," I said.
"Yeah, that's fine," Dad smiled, while walking off with Mom.
I followed August to his car and hopped in. We fell onto the seats, our shoulders relaxing and our heads falling back.
It looked like my parents liked him. That was really good news.
