I walked into school nervously on Monday. I kept my head down and didn't look up.
"Um July? What the heck are you doing?" Roxanne giggled.
"Looking for her dignity I suspect." Came a voice I never wanted to hear at this school. It was Carmen.
"Shut up Carmel! You don't even know July." Roxanne said.
Carmen froze when Roxanne called her Carmel.
"What did you just call me?" She muttered.
"Carmel, that's your name right?" She smirked.
"So your comparing me to Carmel Smalls? MY SISTER, CARMEL SMALLS?" She said getting fierce.
Carmen raised her hand above Roxanne's face. I just stared in horror, standing there idle. Too afraid to move.
"Carmen!" Carmen lowered her hand abruptly.
"Yeah Cali?" She called.
"Mr. Jones wants you. He's gonna sort out what class your in. I hope your in mine!" Cali cried walking over to us.
Carmen took Cali by the hand and they shot off.During Assembly Mr. Jones walked in.
"Oh crap." I thought. That meant Carmen was in class A. Just great!
"Okay I got to run but here is our new student Carmen Smalls. I hope you will make her feel as welcome as you did to July." He smiled before rushing off."Hello Carmen. I'm Ms Clark."
"Hello Ms Clark." Carmen smiled, batting her eyelashes.
"Well. Um Everyone move down one desk. We need to be alphabetically. So yes Camilla you're next to Jade. No July stay where you are." Ms Clark said.
I felt like crying.
"You see next to that girl there. July put your hand up so Carmen can see where to sit."
I reluctantly put up my hand.
She smirked as she sat down.
"Hey Lunatic. Give me some room fatso!"
"Sure thing Carmel." I smiled.
I watched her tense up and then she did something peculiar. She took out some makeup and a mirror while Ms Clark's back was turned and started drawing on herself. I gazed at her stunned. Then I noticed a sketch book open if front of her. She was applying makeup to the pattern in the sketch pad onto her face. I peered over her shoulder and saw a drawing of a face of a girl who had been slapped hard. It looked so realistic. Carmen drew that? It looked like it was done by a professional.Soon Carmen put her makeup away and teared the beautiful picture into shreds.
"Hides the evidence." She grinned.
I just stared at her blankly.
"You drew that?" I said.
"Yup." She grinned further.
She dropped the picture shreds into her bag along with the sketch book and then faced me with an evil smile. I gasped in horror. The slap mark on the girl in the picture was copied onto Carmen's face with makeup and it looked so lifelike.
"Wow." I gasped again.
Then after everyone poured out of class when the bell rang, she took my hand and told me to stay for a minute because she wanted to talk.
"Sure." I said nervously. Then, when we were the only two in the room she shut the door and grabbed my wrist. She grabbed it with two hands and pulled it incredibly hard.
"CARMEN! OW STOP." I cried.
She kept on twisting and pulling. I tried to kick her away but she kicked back harder. I was going pale.
"STOP YOU FUCKING IDIOT! GET OFF! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?" I screamed. I never swear. That was about the sixth time I'd ever swore out loud in my life. She kept going until I lost all feeling and then she just let go.
"YOU BITCH WHAT WAS THAT FOR?" I cried.
She just opened her mouth and screamed.
"HELP! TEACHER!"
Carmen then crumpled to the ground.
Ms Parks walked in and shouted.
"WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON IN HERE?"
I opened my mouth to speak but Carmen stared talking.
"It's my first day." She sniffed.
"And July attacked me! All I asked was if she could lend me a biro!"
Carmen then burst into phoney tears.
"That's not true!" I cried.
"Come on Miss Summers to my office." Ms Parks said coldly.
I went to the voice principal's office while Ms Parks went off to the nurse with Carmen. My wrist was senseless. I couldn't move it.I don't think I've ever had a worse Monday.
