Chapter 4: The Date

"D, are you okay?"salubong ni Liam nang makarating ako sa bahay.

"Ba't ka nandito?"

"I'm just checking if you're fine. I'm really worried. I thought Amity's only joking when she told me you're not in good terms."

"Look Liam, I'm fine—"

"I know you're trying to act like one. I know you're not fine. Mamaya nito, magkukulong ka sa kwarto at mag-iiyak na naman do'n na parang bata—"

"Shut up! Umalis ka nga. Makita na naman tayo nina mommy at kung ano-ano na naman ang sasabihin no'n."

"D. You'll abandon our friendship just like that? Really?Damn D! You're a sister to me and you'll treat me right now like I'm just a plain stranger?"

"Stop cussing! Shit! Wala na nga pala ang Amity na 'yon!"inis na nasambit ko.

"I really miss you. You're my babygirl. You're not a snub. As much as I want to marry you, to be honest, I know you don't love me like that—"

"Yuck Liam! Nakakadiri ka! You really wanted to marry me—Eww! 'Wag ka ng magpakita sa'kin."

Tumawa siya at hindi na ako nakapalag ng hilahin niya ako para yakapin. He kissed my head and whispered.

"I love you D."

I punched his chest and I rolled my eyeballs. Lalo siyang tumawa. Nagflying-kiss pa ang sira ulo bago tuluyang umalis. Kaasar talaga ang Liam na 'yon. Alam na nga niyang nandidiri ako kapag sinasabihan ng mga gano'ng kataga, sinasadya pa niyang sabihin sa'kin. Tss. Na-miss ko rin naman siya kahit papano.

Alam kong biro lang ng mga magulang namin ang paulit-ulit nilang pagbanggit sa arranged marriage. Pero talagang namumuhi ako sa isiping may relasyon kaming dalawa other than friendship. No'ng 18th birthday ko nga, muntik ng magpropose sa'kin si Liam dahil sa utos ng mga magulang ko't mga magulang niya. It's really hideous!

What's more hideous? My other bestfriend is still mad at me. And I miss her already.

NAGISING AKO the following day dahil sa ingay ni mommy. Ginigising niya kasi ako kahit na ang aga-aga pa.

"Mom? What's that for? Natutulog pa ako."reklamo ko.

Lalo akong nagtaka nang makita ang ngiti niya. I can't believe exactly right now that my mother is the Queen Kathryn Bernardo-Padilla with her giggles.

"Mom?"

"Honey, someone's waiting for you downstairs. You should really need to have yourself fixed. He's waiting."nakangiting sabi niya at saka lumabas.

Hihiga na sana ako ulit nang gumuho ulit ang ulo niya sa pintuan.

"Anyway honey, he's charming. Good choice."

I'm sure it's not Liam. But who the hell is he then? Nagmamadali akong naligo at nag-ayos. Halos takbuhin ko na ang pagbaba sa staircase sa sobrang curiosity ko sa lalaking tinutukoy ni mommy. Para akong natabunan ng lupa nang makita ang naka-unipormeng lalaki sa sala.

"Shit. Anong ginagawa mo rito?"

"Let's talk this over in the car."sagot niya.

"Hell no! Whatever you're thinking, it's not happening Bryce. Get lost."

Dahil hindi siya kumibo, iniwan ko nalang siya at nagmamadaling lumabas. Naramdaman kong sinundan niya ako.

"It's the only way so Matt will stop his games with you. Date me."

Lalong uminit 'yong mukha ko sa sinabi niya.

"Wag na wag mo na akong kakausapin. I-Date mo 'yang mukha mo! I can deal with Matt on my own if that's what you are worrying."

"I'm serious. He dated you for a bet. It sounds ridiculous because it's too cliché. It always happens in movies. But it's the truth. Matt's upset that you wanted him to wait because we only have given him a month. And now, he's obsessed for you to tell everyone that you really are in love with him. You bruised his ego."

Ayaw ko siyang pakinggan pero nang banggitin niyang pinaghintay ko si Matt, I'm completely believing him right now. Matt told everybody that we stopped dating because he got sick of me. Kaya nga ganito na lang ako kainis sa kanya.

"Sinabi ba talaga ni Matthew sa inyo na pinaghintay ko siya?"

"Never. I knew he would never say that."

"But how did you know?"

"Amity told me yesterday. And I've analyzed things."

"Thanks Bryce. But I don't really find the idea of you and me dating possible. Sorry. Whatever your reason is for helping me, thank you. I need to go."

Weird Bryce. Hindi naman talaga kasi nila ako kinakausap. Pero... he has a point. But I can't date him. Kung may ide-date man ako sa mga kaibigan ng hambog na Matthew na yon para lalo siyang magalit sa'kin, it's not Bryce nor Ayden and Gavin. I really hate that Theon but he's the only option I have right now. Theon, it is!
