Chapter 27: Her Joy is the Another's Agony

AMITY'S POINT OF VIEW:

Dalawang araw na akong naghihintay na magreply siya pero walang dumadating. They're both absent yesterday. Amity, tanga ka ba? Birthday niya! Malamang they're out of town. Ugh! Bakit ba ang hirap? Alam kong bestfriend ko si Dillenna. Kahit minsan, hindi ko nakakalimutan 'yon. But as much as I can't forget her as my bestfriend, I find it even harder to ignore my feelings for him. It would have made a difference if I have told her before how much I secretly love him.

It's his car! Bumaba agad siya nang makapark na sila. He ran to the other side and opened the door for her. Dillenna alighted who looks very different to me. There is something in her that I can't explain.

"Look at Dillenna. She looks blooming today. She even looks happier." I didn't turn my head to see who's talking because I can tell already. It's Iris, Jannicca's friend and alalay.

"Much better then! I want her to be really in love with him so I can surely have her heart very broken to the extent that she'll end her life. Magpakasaya ka lang ngayon, Heera. Take your time."

Oh no! It's Jannicca! What is she planning to do with Dillenna and Theon?

I pretended as if I'm reading so she won't directly notice and recognize me. Dumaan sila sa harapan ko at hindi naman nila ako napansin. Is she not yet over with Dillenna? Jannicca must have been butt-hurt when Matt broke her heart and now she wants D to take the blame. How freaky!

On the other hand, umiba ng daan sina D at Theon. I want to call her but I stopped myself. Ngayon pa nga lang, habang pinapanood ko sila habang naglalakad na magkahawak ang kamay ay parang sasabog na ang dibdib ko sa selos at inggit.

"Tigilan mo na kasi. Watching them from here would just make it worse. It will just make everything harder for you." I glanced up at Ayden who's smirking right behind me.

Immediately, I ran away from him and went directly to my classroom. Magkaklase kami ni Theon... at ni Liam. Most assuredly, the latter will not ever let me talk to Theon. Ni hindi nga niya ako pinapalapit. Not only that, he'd even take my dearest phone from me.

"Something's really different with you TJ."Gavin started. Kung si Ayden ang pinakatahimik kapag magkasama sila, si Gavin naman 'tong pinakamaingay.

"What are you talking about?"Theon replied forming his designed frowns on his forehead.

"You just look different. I must add, you can't even take that smile off from your face. Is that a marriage influence?"

"Where were you on your birthday? Ang aga naming pumunta sa inyo. Hindi kami pinagbuksan."kwento naman ni Bryce.

"Sorry about that. My wife and I have agreed to lock ourselves away from anyone." He glanced at Liam when he said the words. Liam clenched his teeth upon noticing what I have also noticed.

"He doesn't mean to make you jealous or anything..."I whispered to Liam.

My phone buzzed and I eagerly took it out from my purse to read it. Kumunot 'yong noo ni Liam nang ngitian ko siya habang kinukuha ko ang cellphone ko.

Diretsong nawala 'yong ngiti ko. I thought it's him. Not that I'm not happy she texted me, I'm just really expecting someone else. Hinablot ni Liam 'yong phone ko.

"Why aren't you happy? It's D." Napatingin sina Theon sa'min. Ang lakas naman kasi ng boses ng Liam na 'to. Tss.

"Ano ka ba? Akin na nga 'yan!"

I grabbed my phone from him. Nang sulyapan ko si Theon ay nakatingin siya sa'kin. What he did next made my heart leaped! He smiled at me. I looked down and tried hard not to smile back widely at him. I caught Liam sternfully staring at me.

"I'm going to kill him if he'll do it again."he mouthed which made my eyes widened in surprise.

"What?"

"He's flirting with you!"nanggigil niyang pigil na 'wag maisigaw.

"Are you jealous?"I rolled my eyes at him.

"You wish! I can't let him hurt 'her'."

"He's just smiling at me. He's not flirting!"

Everybody's eyes are now set on me. What? Have I shouted it? Oh my gosh! What have I done? My eyes landed on Theon who's arching his brows at me.

"I'm sorry guys. Haha. I didn't mean to shout."

I stood up to get out of the room. Before I went my way, I kicked Liam's chair. I ran away before he can complain. When I managed to storm far enough from the classroom, I dialled Dillenna's number.

"A! Miss you! Have you read my message?"she cheerfully chirped on the other line.

"Yes. Can you meet me at the parking space right now? I feel sick. I want to go home."

"Sure. I'm on my way. Don't hang up."

Not long after two minutes, she arrived wearing her look of concern. Oh, I almost forgot what I told her. I groped my head to feign I'm having a headache.

"Sa bahay nalang tayo."yaya niya. "Masakit ba'ng ulo mo?"

I nodded. Of too much worry about my headache, she insisted driving my car. Wala akong magawa. She's Dillenna Heera. She always wins.

"Di ba kaklase mo si Liam? Hindi man lang ba nag-offer na ihatid ka?"

"No. He didn't know. And I hate him. Nakakainis siya. Sobra! Ang manyak na 'yon! Tsk."

She chuckled.

"Ano ka ba A! Ang tagal na no'n, 'wag mo ng balikan. It's a normal thing little boys do! When was that? Grade 3? Tama ba?"

"Hindi ko nga alam Dillenna kung bakit nagawa ko'ng makipagkaibigan sa kanya—"

"I tell you what, you look great together."

"Eww. We both know, he likes you."

"Come on A. I'm married."she smiled upon saying the last word.

She glanced dreamily at her wedding ring. Napatingin na lamang ako sa labas. Ayokong makaramdam ng ganito. Bestfriend ko si Dillenna. I feel like I'm betraying her.

"I really want to tell you a lot of things but I don't know it will be alright because... in your case, if it happens to you... It's uhmm. Gosh! I don't know how to tell you about it. I don't even know if I really have to tell you."

Is she trying to tell me about them, making love? She's blushing and there's nothing else I can think about for her to redden that much. Unconsciously, I clenched my teeth.

"Are you okay, A? Does it hurt that much? Let me just take you to the clinic instead."

"No. I'm fine. Besides, I want to see your house."

"Amity? Is something wrong?"she suddenly asked making my heart pace in faster beats.
