Chapter 3: A Friend

Gavin's Point of View:

Kanina pa siya tumatawa samantalang pinapanood ko lang siya. Nakailang bote na siya. Ayaw niya kasing paawat.

"Hahaha. You're impressed that I went to school more beautiful that day like as if I haven't gotten through a divorce."she slurred as she broke into laughter again. "I saw him that day. The look on his face was priceless too. May...may—be he... he was not anticipating to see me."

"Yes. You were so damn hot and beautiful on that red dress that day. Everyone was shocked. You were the talk of the campus for a week after that."

"Ah—huh. Was I?"she asked and laughed again.

Tinanguhan ko lang siya. Nang damputin niya ang isa pang bottle ng gin, pinigilan ko na siya. Kaninang alas-sinko pa kami rito. It's now ten. I have to drive her home.

"It's enough fancy-face. Wala akong pakialam kung magagalit ka sa'kin but you really have to stop. Ihahatid na kita, sa ayaw at gusto mo."

Nakailang hakbang na kami habang inaalalayan ko siya nang muntik siyang mapahandusay sa hallway. Tumambad sa harapan namin ang galit na si Theon. Sinusundan ba niya kami?

"I'll drive her home."matapang na saad niya na nagpapantig ng tenga ko.

"Who are you?"she slurred while she tried hard to open her eyes.

Theon's jaw stiffened at her question.

"Gavin. Honey. Take me to your place. Take me home."mapang-akit na tonong sambit niya sa'kin.

Bigla akong nanlamig sa sinabi niya. Did she do that on purpose? She's seducing me! Shit Gavin! Of course, she just did it to annoy Theon.

"TJ, bro. Mauna na kami."paalam ko.

Nagtagis ang bagang niya ngunit hindi na siya nagsalita pa. Binuhat ko si Heera patungo sa kotse. Malapit na kami sa kanila nang bigla siyang magsalita habang nakapikit parin ang mga mata.

"Take me to your place, Gavin. I trust you."

A warm feeling gushed through my veins. Napangiti ako sa sinabi niya. She's trusting me. As quick as I can, I maneuvered the car back heading to my place. Having her under the covers already, I was on my way out of the room when she talked with her eyes off.

"Thank you for saving me tonight, Gavin."

"Heera—"

She opened her eyes and looked at me.

"Can you do me one more favor? Can you take a picture of us and post it online?"

Kinabahan ako pero nakikita ko nalang ang sarili kong sumasang-ayon sa gusto niya. When I have assured that she's already asleep, I sneaked out of the room. Nakahiga na ako sa kama ko for half an hour pero hindi parin ako makatulog. I didn't drink anything kanina. I remained sane para mabantayan siya.

After I opened the door, I was choked with a pair of hands.

"Gavin! I'm killing you! What have you done to her!"

"Matt! I didn't—fuck!"Itinulak ko siya nang humigpit ang pagsakal niya sa'kin. "Wala akong ginawa—"

"Wag mo kaming lokohin! Alam na namin ang lahat Gavin! I've known for weeks about that stupid thing you once did to her!"he burst out after hitting me right on my face.

"That was over. She already has forgiven me for it—"

"She might had but we don't! I don't and I'm not forgiving you!"singhal niya at saka tumakbo papunta sa kwarto ko.

"Matthew! Get out of here. She's asleep! Wag mo ng isturbuhin. You might not trust me at all but she does! Kahit may nararamdaman ako sa kanya, hindi ko siya gagalawin. Dahil kung iyon talaga ang intensiyon ko, noon paman, ginawa ko na."

Ilang minuto rin siyang nakatayo lang at tiningnan ako bago siya kumilos at lumabas ng condo. Napahawak ako sa pisngi kong tinamaan ng suntok niya.

"Batshit crazy Matt."bulalas ko nalang habang dinadampi ko sa pisngi ko ang icepack.

AFTER ASKING SOME CREW from downstairs, I waited for them to deliver the clothes for her. Ilang minuto bago pa siya magising ay naihatid na nila ang mga damit na pinahatid ko. With the clothes on my hand, I leisurely went to the room she's in.

"Hi. Good morning."bati niya na bahagyang nagpagulat sa'kin. "Is this building owned by your family?"dugtong pa niya nang hindi ako makapagsalita. I nodded.

"I have decided earlier I'm going to buy a unit. Is the one next to yours available?"

"I guess, it's not but... I can arrange that one for you."

"Thanks then. Are those for me?"tanong niya patungkol sa mga damit na dala ko.

Napatango lang ulit ako. Hindi ko alam kung bakit walang lumalabas na salita sa bibig ko. Perhaps, it's just the excitement that drowned me because of the thought of her occupying a unit next to mine. She isn't serious, is she?

"Let me have that. I'll pay you back later. For now, let's get going. We can't be late in school."

I nodded and headed out from the room. Shit! Did I just really hear that from her? Titira siya sa building na 'to? When? Oh—fuck Gavin! Compose yourself, idiot!

THE MOMENT SHE GOT OUT from my car, everyone started hissing and buzzing rumors. Nang sulyapan ko naman si Heera, nakangisi lang siya. Napakunot ako ng noo. She doesn't care about everyone at all. Nagtaka na lamang ako nang bigla siyang huminto. I looked at the direction she's eyeing. Oh. It's Liam.

"Heera—"

"Just stay put Gavin. I'll take care of this."she muttered when Liam stood in our fronts alredy with fuming stares thrown at me. "Liam, it's okay. I have decided myself to live with Gavin. Stop babysitting me because I'm no longer a baby and you're not a babysitter in the first place. Alagaan mo nalang ang mag-ina mo."

I knew since then, they're bestfriends. But why do I hear sarcasm in her voice? Am I just hearing things?

"D—"

"Liam! Gosh! I'm fine!"she chuckled and kissed him on the cheek. "See you around, dear! Gavin, let's go!"

Ah. What was that? Okay, I was wrong. Habang naglalakad kami patungong klase namin, hindi ko sinasadyang mamataan si Theon na may kasamang babae. If I am not wrong, kasama iyon nina Heera at Jannicca sa pageant. I was about to take Heera's hand to lead her to another way but she already walked past through them without even looking back!

Binalingan ko si Theon. Nagtatagis ang bagang niya habang itinutok ang tingin sa papalayong si Heera.
