He thought he could do it.

He thought that this time would be different and he would be able to make it.

He was close.

He was so close.

But he failed...

He failed when it counted the most.

He was torn. He was disappointed not only at his lousy performance but most importantly he was disappointed in himself.

He felt incompetent.

Last place.

All of his hard work was for naught.

He didn't know which was worse, falling into last place or not placing at all.

He knows he could have done a lot better.

If only...

He had to give it to his coach though. Celestino was doing his best to cheer him up, trying to take his mind off his loss.

As the cameras flashed and reporters tried to push ahead to ask their questions, he just wanted to sink to the ground in shame.

He wanted to get out of this place as soon as possible.

No, he needed to get out of here.

He wants to go back home and forget that this whole thing has ever happened.

He retreated to a less crowded corridor just to get away from all of the chaos with Celestino trailing behind him.

Grabbing a seat, he scrolled through his phone and what he saw just made him feel even worst.

"Katsuki Yuri falls into last place : 'Would this season be his last?'..."

His coach was barking at him to stop looking at his phone.

It just fell to deaf ears.

...

It feels like it might as well be his last season.

He slowly made his way to the men's lavatory, ignoring his coach.

Entering one of the empty stalls, he fumbled for his phone, and dialled your number.

He needed someone to talk to.

He needed to hear your voice.

A witty remark, a corny joke, anything. He'll take it.

He just needed you.

As it stopped ringing, assuming that you picked up the phone, he opened his mouth to speak but was instead cut off by your voice mail.

"Hey, I'm sorry I couldn't answer your call right now. I am busy with a crap ton of homework I have neglected to do. Leave a message after the beep~"

He scratched his cheek, "Hey um...(Y/N). I hope you receive this message but the truth is..."

His eyes began to sting.

His tears began to fall making his vision bleary.

He was pathetic.

The words seemed to die in his throat.

"I don't know what to say...other than I'm sorry...so...um bye."

And he ended the call.

He wonders if you managed to watch his abysmal performance. Knowing you, you probably didn't even so much as look at your homework and instead live streamed the whole GPF.

Now that he thinks about it, this was his first competition where you weren't there to watch him.

He was so used to your presence that it didn't feel right when you weren't there.

He wiped the stubborn tears away.

He needed to get his act together.

He nearly jumped out of his skin when his phone began to rang.

He scrambled to answer it, "H-hello?"

He was surprised to hear his mother on the other end. He managed to muster a small smile as his mother spoke.

He felt utterly embarrassed when she told him that they had a viewing party back there in Hasetsu.

Great.

Now everyone and their friends knew just how bad he had botched his performance.

Would it be too much to ask to be struck dead by lightning?

He had messed up.

He had messed up.

He had messed up...

He wishes that he could turn back time and do better.

He wishes that you were there to at least tell him how he did.

Never mind.

He didn't need to know how he did.
