You sighed and glanced towards the dark haired skater. He looked...far worse than he did the night before. He was a bit unsteady, his hands were shaking, not to mention he had this far off look on his face. You knew that Yuri tends to be a jumbled ball of nerves before a competition but you had never seen him this rattled before. He looked like a good, strong breeze could tip him over.
Poking his cheek, you sent him a worried look, "Did you get any sleep at all last night?"
Your touch made him jolt and flail his arms around, "I-I totally did! In f-fact, I slept like a baby last night!"
You continue to eye him with great scrutiny. He could feel his sweat trickle down from his forehead under your intense gaze.
"I did sleep...a little..."
"Right...and I'm the Queen of England," Though your tone dripped with sarcasm, you rolled your eyes at him and gave him a small smile, "You know, you're a terrible liar. Only I could pull off that haggard look and still look good."
He gave you a blank stare. You weren't really fooling any body. You would look just as bad as he did if you didn't at least get a good eight hours of sleep.
He sighed and feebly asked, "Do I really look that bad?"
You pursed your lips, "You honestly look like you just came out of a crypt or something."
His head sunk and his shoulders sagged at your words. So much for cheering him up.
Yuri has never been one to worry that much about appearances before. So you concluded that something else must have been bothering him.
Your eyes widened as you realized your mistake and you laughed nervously, "If it is any consolation, you're the most attractive zombie I've ever come across in my entire li...I mean, I'm not saying that you look like the undead...that came out wrong." Your words soon died out. You could practically see a rain cloud forming on the top of his head. You rubbed your neck sheepishly, "...I'll just go and shut up now."
"I must look like such a mess-"
"A hot mess." You muttered which earned a weak glare from the other skater as you had interrupted him, "...Sorry, shutting up again."
He eyed you warily, trying to make sure that you wouldn't utter another word. To make Yuri relax, you did a zipping motion with your fingers to your mouth.
Victor watched the exchange between the two of you from afar with a thoughtful expression. He wordlessly made his way towards you two and placed his hands on Yuri's shoulders. He was giving Yuri a kind, close-eyed smile (the kind that gives you a sense of foreboding...the very same kind that Victor gave you whenever he wanted you to practice for an extra hour...the very thought sent shivers down your spine).
"Yuri, you're coming with me," the silverette stated simply as he gently took the bespectacled skater's wrist.
Yuri's eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets, "E-eh?! Wait a second where are we going?"
Your coach continued to smile, "You need to get some rest before the event this evening," he explained, "We're going back to the hotel."
Yuri was practically being dragged off by the taller man and he tried to pull away from his strong grip.
"Wait! What about (Y/N)?" Yuri asked, desperately not wanting to leave the stadium. He felt that even if he did try to get some shut eye, his nerves wouldn't let his mind rest (Victor being alone with him wouldn't help either).
You puffed your cheek and pouted, "Yeah, what about me?"
Victor tapped his chin with his finger as if he was deep in thought, "Well, you could stay here if you'd like?"
You were about to give a retort when you suddenly felt someone wrap their arms around you from behind, startling you. The sudden weight nearly caused you to stumble forward. Lucky for you, you managed to catch yourself before you fell to the floor.
"What the f-"
"(Y/N)!"
You blinked as you recognized the voice. You turned so fast to face its owner that it nearly gave you a whiplash, "Phichit?! What the heck did you think you were doing?! You nearly gave me a heart attack!"
He just grinned, not affected at all by the glare that you were sending his way, "What? I can't greet you anymore?"
"Well no, but- you don't just glomp people out of the blue!"
"Eh? Why?"
"Because only I could do that!"
He stuck his tongue out, "You're no fun."
You rolled your eyes at him, "Aren't you supposed to be with Ciao Ciao right now?"
He nodded, "I was but then I saw you so I decided to say 'hello'."
You blinked, "What are you talking about? Yuri and Victor are-" you turned, expecting to see the two aforementioned people but to your great surprise, they were no longer standing behind you, "They were here just a moment ago."
You could not believe them. They just left without telling you. You knew that you could not tell them what to do or what not to do. It was something that seems so insignificant, so inconsequential but...
It hurts.
It hurts that they made it seem like you matter so little with the simple action of leaving without telling you.
Your expression soured. You felt that annoying pang on your chest again. It was the same heavy and disgusting feeling that churns at the pit of your stomach and you hate it. You knew that this thing that you're feeling is irrational (but since when was jealousy rational to begin with?) and it was bothering you. It plagues your mind to no end.
You thought that this would be a fleeting sort of thing and that it would pass...you were wrong. It has come back at full force and you did not know what to do about it.
You were beginning to feel insecure. You were beginning to question yourself, to doubt yourself.
It was not that you did not trust them...but maybe...just maybe it was them who did not trust you.
Phichit, taking note of your silence gently placed a hand on your shoulder, "(Y/N)? Are you okay?"
Were you okay?
Right now, you weren't really certain. You had a lot of things on your mind right now. You needed something to get your mind out of this horrible feeling.
You released a shaky breath and looked at your friend in the eye. You were beside yourself with disgust and yet you allowed yourself to smile, "Yeah, I've never been better."
"Are you su-"
"Come with me, let's go grab some hot chocolate or something," your smile never left your face.
It was just too bad though.
No one even noticed...that your smile didn't reach your eyes.
