A drip, followed by a beep then another drip...then a beep. It was a repetitious cycle, one that seemingly was without end. It was small, it was a sound that someone could easily miss in a place like this wherein it has become part of the mundane. But to you it was loud, deafening even, a booming noise within the confines of the room. It was the only sound that you could hear. The sound was echoing, bouncing back and forth creating a bubble wherein that was the only thing that you could make sense of. It was driving you to the point of utter madness.
You wanted to get out. You had to get out. It was the only thought that rang through your mind.
You couldn't stand being trapped here for another second. The strong scent of disinfectant that wafted through the air, the four dreary walls that boxed you in, the limited light that streamed in through the window, the thin hospital issued sheet that could barely give you enough warmth, the sense of foreboding that smothered your very being, you could not take it. It was just too much.
Once your mind has ceased its unproductive buzz, you began brainstorming a way out of this mess. Any second longer in this hell hole and you would feel as if you have forfeited your sanity. The tight sensation in your chest that has robbed you of your breath has subsided a bit giving you a much sounder mind to conjure up a plan of escape.
Who were you trying to kid? You didn't have time to come up with a plan. You needed to leave right now.
You tried to move again which only resulted in the throbbing of your head. Your vision was swimming, everything was a blur. Why couldn't you see clearly? What was wrong with you?
You attempted to inch yourself towards the edge of the bed but it was proving difficult. Your body was unwilling to cooperate with you. You had to literally drag yourself by holding onto the nearby table just so that you could near the edge to get your feet on the floor. You were almost there. It hurts like hell but you disregarded the pain.
Just as you were about to get out of the bed completely, you lost your balance as a sudden dizzy spell hit you. You fell onto the cold tile with a thud, causing the things on the table to fall with a loud clatter. You yelled, doubling over at searing pain that spiked throughout your body. You only then became aware of the splint that was attached to your casted right foot. Tears pricked at the corner of your eyes from the agony you were in. Everything that had happened before soon came back to you. You had gotten badly hurt and now you were here...
Not even seconds after, nurses began clammoring inside the once empty room, trying to help you up and get you back into the bed. Your eyes widened like soucers at the sight of them, trying to touch you. Your immediate reaction was to get as far away from them as possible. You pushed them away with what little strength that you had, trying to get free. You were being difficult but you had a good reason.
Not only were you scared out of your wits, you were outnumbered three to one and you were cornered. You didn't want to be at their mercy and stay in this godforsaken place any longer.
"Let me go! Let me go!" You screamed, your voice was shrill.
"Please calm down, you have to get back to bed," one of the nurses tried to placate you, to convince you to follow them.
"Let go of me!"
Your protests fell on deaf ears.
You continued to thrash about, you even managed to scratch one of the nurse's arms out of spite despite your waning strength. Your IV has already gotten loose from all the commotion, staining the white tile with a touch of a dark crimson color. Your panic went from zero to a hundred in a fraction of a second. You felt a sudden desertion of what little presence of mind you had and a sudden influx of vulnerability.
