Your grip tightened, nearly crumpling the small photograph in your hand.
You didn't expect to go down memory lane, you had no intentions to.
But even as the memories of your life before moving to Hasetsu, before learning how to skate...before Yuri (who is arguably the best thing that has happened to you) swarmed in your head, you did not feel as upset as you thought you would have been.
Granted, not every aspect of your life has been great but you could not deny that there were some things that made your life worth living.
However you wanted to be able to look back not regretting anything.
You were still rather hung up over the many losses you have incurred in your lifetime but you wanted to move on.
You wanted to give yourself a chance to heal.
Why must everything be so difficult?
Why couldn't the universe be kind for once and give you an instruction manual on how to deal with this sort of things?
You allowed a small laugh escape your lips.
Glancing over to the key board on the foot of your bed, you hesitantly traced your fingers on its keys.
Pushing down, a soft note reverberated in your silent room.
What was the message that you wanted to pass on when you were on the ice?
Everything all goes back to that one question.
It might not seem like a huge deal to others but for you, it meant the world.
You wanted to be passionate about something, a purpose.
You slowly played a tune that was familiar to you. The music starts out slow, and gentle, gradually building as you reached the chorus.
You smiled.
You still remembered all of the notes.
It had been a long time since you have last played this song.
You lost yourself as you played, your fingers danced on the keys.
You were so engrossed in the music that you failed to notice Yuri slip in through your door.
You stopped and raised a questioning brow, "Yuri?"
He looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
"Ah...I'm sorry...I should have knocked," he started, "I heard you playing..."
Blood rushed to your cheeks making your face feel warm, "You heard that? Was it too loud?"
"No, no...it's fine," he said, giving you a small, reassuring smile.
Your lips soon formed a thin line. You didn't exactly want anyone to hear you play that song.
A moment of silence passed between the two of you.
He cleared his throat, "I b-brought you breakfast. You didn't join us earlier so...," he said rather lamely. Only then did you notice that he had a small tray of food in his hands, "or lunch considering the time..."
You swiped your phone open to check the time.
It was already that late and you didn't even notice, too lost in your own world.
"Sorry about that," you grinned sheepishly, scratching the back of your head, "you really didn't have to trouble yourself, Yuri." You said referring to the tray of food that he was still holding.
