You know a curve ball starts one way and then goes another. A well-thrown fast ball is predictable - you know where it is going. It only goes in a straight line- and because of that, it is fairly easy to hit. But a curve ball is different.*
Victor Nikiforov was like that.
In a place where nothing much ever goes on, word tends to spread rather quickly. Having a world renowned figure skater tends to mix things up a bit. Victor is the talk of the whole town, Hasetsu was practically buzzing.
Showing up in Yuri's home unannounced, uninvited (and very, very undressed) was one way to get both your attention.
The only thing that was bothering you was...why?
Of course, you and Yuri got an earful from Minako. She told you that he saw something in the way you two skated.
Yeah right.
Yuri, you could understand. He was the one who had managed to perfectly execute Victor's well-known routine down to the letter. Heck, he was better than you in skating. He was the whole frikin reason you ever got so into the sport in the first place.
You on the other hand...
You just skated because you needed to vent. It was something very personal (and you were still angry at the triplets for ever posting that video of you online. You should have known better).
It was just like the first time you ever tried your hand at ice skating. It was at least six years ago when you just recently moved to Hasetsu...
Compared to Yuri, you came out more as a hobbyist of sorts. You just skated for fun. But you couldn't deny the thrill of competing against fellow skaters.
But you were still unsure.
You still wondered what did that living legend ever saw in you.
You knew that he came to be your coach and that he would personally be training the two of you.
Were you flattered? Yes. Who wouldn't be?
The guy flew all the way from Russia just to see the two of you. It may or may not have been done on a whim but still, it was the thought that counts, right?
Oh boy, you could only imagine what was racing through Yuri's head right now?
Having the Victor in Hasetsu, the living, breathing one (and not just some poster) was offering to teach them, to teach him. You were certain his mind was reeling.
The man that he had been idolizing for so long was right in front of him. He even went as far as planning to live under the same roof as the Katsuki's. Victor already laid claim to the unused banquet room and already brought in all of his stuff.
Sure, make yourself at home why don't ya?
The Katsuki residence got just a little more crowded. Throw in a skating god into the mix and things just got a little more lively.
Yuri must be in heaven. He gets to see his idol every day now (he has yet to take down those posters in his room if he wanted to spare himself the embarrassment of Victor 'accidently' seeing them).
A god living amongst men so they say.
You did your best to make yourself scarce. In every opportune moment, you find a way to slip past him.
You just did not know how to deal with the guy. He was...a bit of a handful to say the least.
So he has done his best to tail Yuri around whenever he could. It ranged from asking to sleeping in the same room to taking baths together.
Of course, his stay wasn't without it's drawbacks.
First of all, Victor tended to be very touchy or rather very bold when it comes to expressing his affection. Most of the time it was just plain flirting, be it with you or with Yuri.
He was harmless though...
Right?
He was a nice guy you could tell, but even you needed your space. He had good intentions. He honestly just wants to get to know the two of you more.
You still weren't that comfortable.
And second, You were beginning to see Yuri less and less which was weird since you too were staying under the same roof as him.
But you couldn't really blame Yuri.
Victor has set a condition that he couldn't skate until he had lost a bit of weight. At least he should weigh as much as he did during the Grand Prix Finals a year ago.
You pouted when you heard of that ridiculous condition. You thought that Yuri could skate well even if he was a bit chubby. The sudden weight gain did little to hide his talent. You liked him as he is.
But it was rather reasonable...he needed to be in top shape if he wanted to compete again.
You were going to miss your piggy-chan.
When he is out getting back into shape whether it was at Minako's studio or with Takeshi, you were left by your lonesome (sometimes accompanied by sweet Makkachin. The poodle was proving to be a great listener for all your rants when Yuri wasn't around...as long as you gave him a few treats every now and then) since Victor was out doing his own thing as well.
It meant that you get less and less alone time with Yuri.
And as for you, Victor's plans for your skating career was spotty at best.
He hasn't exactly divulged what he plans to do concerning your own training. You figured you would just wait.
You are still stuck at wondering just what on earth made him notice you.
And besides, you knew out of the two of you, Yuri was the one with the most potential. It just needed to be untapped, a little nudge in the right direction.
Yuri has already built a wall around himself and you were well aware of it. You didn't want to force it out of him, for him to spill his guts. He just never told you directly yet and you were getting pretty tired of waiting.
And maybe...just maybe...Victor was just the guy to help Yuri realize that.
