You quietly walked at an even pace behind the younger skater. You did not question where you were going which in hindsight, probably wasn't the best idea. You still did not know him that well and for all you know, he could be leading you to the cleavers to disembowel you or something...you were probably just being paranoid.
He walked with an air of certainty in each step. It was as if he had walked in the very same streets his entire life. Each turn, each alley seemed to have been etched with a knife in his mind. With his larger strides, he was becoming much more difficult to keep up with.
"Are we there yet?" you asked.
He didn't answer, he just kept going. In fact, it seems like he was stepping up his pace.
Didn't he know that ignoring people is rude? You frowned. You knew that he could hear you just fine. The streets weren't that busy for your voice to be lost over all the noise. You would have asked again if it weren't for that niggling feeling in the back of your head that was saying, 'he wouldn't answer you anyway so why bother?'.
The two of you were somewhere in the downtown area from what you could tell (your companion really wasn't willing to disclose information as to where the both of you were headed). You felt a frisson of excitement bubble inside you. It was that tingly feeling that spreads from your brain right down to your fingers and toes. You needed the buzz of something new, the thrill of the unknown. You haven't really been anywhere other than the park since you've arrived here. The cacophony of people bustling, or the sound of cars on the road was nothing new. It was a sound you were well accustomed with but being somewhere new thrilled you. It was rather childish, really. It was a feeling that you haven't seemed to outgrown just yet and you probably never will.
In most big cities you have been to, everyone seems to be in such a big hurry. It was as if everyone was on auto-pilot, each person hard wired to get as far away from each other as quickly as possible, make no eye contact and move fast.Everyone seemed so gaunt and serious. They walk all around, they drive everywhere the same way water fills a jar, all the space will be taken until you barely had room to breathe. It was different here though.
As you walked, you observed. Everyone seemed to know everyone else. They all greeted each other with a smile and chatted as they did. Some of them had their heads down, lost in thought. You briefly wondered what their worlds were like - every single one of them shared this exact same day as you did and all of them are seeing it from a different point of view. Some might take note of the clouds as they lazily drifted across the sky, others might remember the cloudy remains of the other day's downpour. Things weren't as fast paced here as you were used to it was pretty much like...
You stopped dead in your tracks. Your thoughts drifted off to...
Hasetsu.
For the briefest of moments, you remember the clear night sky as the stars twinkled high above you. You remember the feeling of walking through the sand as the waves gently kissed your feet. You remember the way the sea scattered the reflection of the sun like glittering sequins as it is about to set beyond the horizon. You remember the smell of the morning breeze, a scent that reminded you of home. The coastal town that you loved so much seemed like such a distant memory now.
Home was where your heart is...and you weren't really sure where it lies anymore.
"(Y/N)?"
You blinked. Only then did you recall where you were. The sounds seemed a bit muffled still. You were standing in the middle of the side walk and some people sent curious glances your way.
"You were pretty out of it...I noticed that you weren't following me anymore and I thought you got lost." Damon muttered, "Are you alright?"
You nodded your head and plastered on a smile, "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
He gave you a disbelieving look. You sighed, "Are we there yet?"
He nodded stiffly, still not believing that you were in fact, okay, "It's just right down the corner, let's go."
As soon as the two of you got to your destination, you felt your stomach heart drop like an anvil. Your mouth ran dry and your stomach flipped in an uncomfortable way. You felt as if your brain was full of static, either from firing off a million unhelpful thoughts at once or offering nothing at all. You did not want to take a step foot inside the building. You wanted to turn tail and leave.
"What are we doing here?" your voice was barely over a whisper.
He rolled his eyes and gave you an 'are-you-serious' look, "Isn't it obvious?" he asked as he pushed the door open.
Against all better judgement, you hesitantly went inside as well. The cool air caressed your cheek as you went further inside the building. You apprehensively walked towards the younger teen and stood behind him as he talked to someone over the counter, trying to appear nonchalant when you were nothing but a ball of nerves at the moment, the pink hue on your cheeks was betraying your facade. The woman he was talking to smiled at you and gestured you to come closer. She seemed like a nice enough person.
"So what's your size?"
"My w-what?" you sputtered.
He groaned, "What is your shoe size, idiot? Lin would give you your skates."
You shook your head, "I'm not here to-"
"Look, (Y/N)," Damon cut you off, "We went all this way, you might as well suck it up and go skate. Heaven knows you need it."
From a distance, you could here the sound of blades cutting through the ice. It was such a familiar sound, one that you would never forget.
You took a deep breath and narrowed your eyes at him, "I can't...and I won't skate."
