You slowly eased back into the life of being around with your mother, being around with your parents. The house was new to you but you could pick out a few things from your old home, right before you guys moved to Japan, scattered around.

At first you thought that it would be awkward and it was but you all got through it and painfully so. It was like trying to greet someone you've known before and soon find out that you knew absolutely nothing about them. It was just as hard as trying to put a name to a face of a complete stranger, or was that just you? The thought of staying under the same roof as your parents again after such a long time of being away seemed so unreal. The fact that you were all eating dinner at the same table seemed unreal. The fact that you were all together and whole again seemed unreal. You felt tempted to pinch yourself just to make sure you weren't dreaming.

Your father arrived somewhere in the evening while you were busy helping your mother prepare dinner. He just came back from a week-long business trip, your mother told you. Well some things will never change.  Your parent's work ethic is still pretty much the same. You suppose that it was just sheer luck that your mother was home, otherwise you would be staying outside in the cold.

The moment your father's eyes landed on you, he dropped his things onto the floor and rushed towards you, enveloping you in a warm hug. Your mother smiled warmly at the scene. No words were needed. Your family was whole again. You wanted this feeling to last forever, to be burned into your memory.

Dinner was a lot more lively than you expected. It has been years so it was like getting to know each other all over again. You did not mind their questions though. You knew even before now that your parents have been making an effort to reach out to you and all you did was brush them away. You regret it now which is also why you wanted to make up for lost time and you did your best to answer their questions. It mostly consisted of questions like, 'Do you have a new favorite food?', 'Have you been to anywhere new?' and stuff like that. Even long after the food was gone and the left overs were kept away, the three of you stayed at the table, enjoying each other's company. It was fun and for the first time in what felt like forever, you found yourself smiling and laughing. It was as if you did not have a care in the world, your worries momentarily forgotten. After their questioning, they began to tell stories and you listened, enraptured at the sound of your parents' voices. It was a familiar sound that was oddly comforting.

They soon turned their attention back to you. Your dad spoke as she was gathering up the dishes on the table, "So (Y/N), how long would you be staying here? It's good to have you back after so long but...do you plan on leaving again soon?"

You raised an inquisitive brow at the older man. You felt your lips tug at the corner at his question, "I just got here, dad. Do you want me to leave already?"

"It's not like that at all, (Y/N)," your mother clarified, "We just want to know what your plans are? We...we want to know. We want to be a part of your life again..."

You felt guilty all of a sudden. You cleared your throat, "I...I actually didn't think that I would get this far," you admitted lamely, "Would it be alright if...if I get back to you on that one? I would like to think about it more."

Your father nodded, his expression was one of understanding, "It's alright, (Y/N). There is no need to rush. In fact, you could stay here for as long as you like."

You let out a breath that you did not know you have been holding, "Thank you..."

"Think nothing of it, (Y/N)," he said, "We're family aren't we? This is just as much as your home as it is ours."

"You could take the spare bedroom," Your mom said, "You could bring your things in there and I'll give you fresh sheets and some pillows-"

"No thanks." You cut her off, surprising the both of them.
