There was something about figure skating that was oddly therapeutic. For the duration of your free skate, you felt a bit more liberated, a bit more free. There was even a point where you just lost yourself all together. You were still upset, nothing could really change that but you felt a little better once you skated to your piece. It was honestly the high light of your day. You felt...nice knowing that you weren't just feeling sad any more. You allowed yourself to feel in contrast to the numbness that you felt earlier. You never imagined that you would feel this way because you knew that the hardest part of being numb was that when you want to feel something else, there were times that you would not know how to.
When they announced your scores, you couldn't care less. You were just happy that you finished your free skate.
It was over for now...and for that, you were grateful. You were grateful. You desperately needed something else other than the constant pangs of pain in your chest.
Your fall wasn't exactly gentle so your body was a bit sore. Falling on the ice was a part of the job description. Your shoulder would probably bruise, but hey, it was just another bruise to your countless other ones. It made putting on your jacket a bigger hassle than it actually was though. The cold was beginning to get to you.
As you left the Kiss and Cry, you lost sight of Victor entirely. He most likely went to find Yuri. You didn't make a move to follow after him. You saw no need to.
You let out a breath that you didn't know you were holding.
It was almost Yuri's turn, you mused. He was the last to skate. Being the final performer was a rather lonely place to be. That's where everyone's expectations would be at its peak. You wondered how the twenty-three year old would take it considering he was a nervous wreck in the beginning of it all.
'He would do great,' was what you always told yourself and he always did live up to your expectations...and more.
You missed watching the free skate of Georgi, the skater prior to him. It was not like you were looking forward to watching. You became rather indifferent to the other performances, not paying attention at all as to what they were doing.
As Yuri's name was called, your eyes widened at the sight before you.
His steely gaze went right through you. He and Victor walked right past you as if you weren't there. You knew that Yuri had a lot on his mind, he probably was feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders right now...but did he really see right past you? Can't he bring himself to look your way?
He was different. He seemed more bold, more certain, more sure of himself.
What did Victor tell him while they were away? Why does it look like Yuri just bawled his eyes out and yet he manages to look so strong? Was he okay?
And then all of a sudden, it came crashing down on you like a ton of bricks. He was different and you had failed to see it. He was a new person. He was a new person with a new mindset, a new outlook and a new soul.
His sudden change brought a change in you as well. You felt your world shift.
You bit your lip so hard until you tasted the familiar metallic tang.
He and Victor had a brief exchange before he took to the ice, a silent agreement, an understanding. There were no need for words.
You watched him skate with out a word. The crowd's cheers fell on deaf ears. You just watched him as he skated, his body creating the symphony of sounds that even the music itself could ever hope to convey. He did not need to say a word and you understood. It was a language that only figure skaters shared but you saw him like this. It was only you saw him like this.
