Qing is as quiet as a tomb tonight. He's so quiet that even I am afraid to make any kind of noise in the event that that noise will disturb him with his thinking.
I guess, Qing had a lot to think about tonight and many more nights to come after this. The worrier in him won't let his mind rest after that talk he had with his father.
We had dinner with Qing's family tonight. Her sister had some good news she wanted to share to the family that's why we gather together. It was indeed a good news but I am not in liberty to disclose it here. It will be a family secret, and since I am part of the family now, I also had the responsibility to keep that secret.
But let's go back to Qing and his talk with his father. This one I am allowed to write cause it's not really a secret of the family. Actually this issue had been tackled by Qing and his father so many times I wonder when will they just give up and agree to disagree.
It'a about Qing's inheritance from his grandfather.
Qing is what many of us can call a "trust fund baby". It means somewhere somehow his ancestor had anticipated Qing's arrival in his family and decided to put money in a bank, let it sit there and earn interest until Qing is of age and can claim that inheritance.
Well Qing had claimed that inheritance a few years ago and now he is heavily investing the money in profitable ventures. I am aware that he had investments in their family business as well as his brother in law's business and some of his friends. Qing is cautious when it comes to money that's why he chose where he will invest it carefully.
So far, as far as I know, those investments are safe and profits are multiplying properly and steadily for him. By how much I don't know cause I don't major in business. I majored in performing arts.
Qing majored in broadcasting but business is in his blood. The family's private joke is "Wangs had a singular talent, to make money". Meaning they are lucky when it comes to business and investing. I think that joke has some merits if Qing's investments will be the basis.
Money is important to Qing, to all of us if we are just being honest, but not because it can be used to buy material richness. Money is security for Qing. As long as he has a steady flow of money from his investments, he can do whatever he wants. Like do movies and hosts show and say no to his father when his old man wants Qing to start concentrating on learning how to run their family business.Qing: I'm still young, let me do what I want for now. And you are still young Father, retirement is not yet on the horizon for you.
Qing's dad: That may be the case, but when will you start to learn how to run our business. Until when will you play at being a celebrity in front of thousands of camera? Just give me a specific date so I can rest easy.
Qing: You don't want a date. You want a promise Father. You want me to give you my word on when I will take my turn on running the business. Well I can't do that. You know how much I hate it when I am being forced to promise something.
Qing's dad: You hate any kind of pressure. You and you're desire to follow your own way, that is what's important to you. Not this family, not our legacy. Qing ah, you are a Wang, and being a Wang means you have certain responsibilities.
Qing: I know that. I am not running away from my responsibilities. I will eventually do my turn for this family. All I am saying is now is not that time Father. I still have things to do, things I want to achieve on my own. Can't you give me this time before you chain me to our business...
Qing's dad: And yet you are getting ready to gather all your profits in investment to start something...
Qing: (getting stony faced) That is my money. I can do what I want with it, you know you can't cross that line. What I do with that money is none of your concern.
Qing's dad: (in louder voice) But that is a lot of money. And to put it at...
Qing: (interrupting) Like I said, none of your concern...
That argument could go on and on, we will all just get tired (and frustrated like Qing and his father) if I finish it til the end. Qing and his dad can go circles on this issue, without any solution in sight.
I can understand Qing's side as well as his father's side on this issue. I fully support Qing in anything he will decide to do. But in the end, I am not the one that will make that decision, it will be Qing. That's why he is thinking again. And again...
As for me, money is something I work hard to earn. Qing joked about me being stingy, a penny pincher. That's okay with me, I have been called worse names than that. I value money based on how hard I worked to earn it. The harder I worked the more I save the money I earned from it.Qing also playfully joked that if ever he failed to protect his investments, I will be the sole earner in our relationship. He will depend heavily on me to support him.
Something like that will be hard, if not impossible, to happen. But a man can daydream eh, imagine if Qing is depending on me and he will do everything I want, yeah that won't be bad.
Ahhh...that won't be bad after all.
In case you are all curious, we had the "talk" on the money issue. I think I already wrote it here but just to be clear again. Qing's money is his money, my money is mine. We each have to pay our reponsibilities on the house, we already split it. Compromised on it. That's how we avoid problems involving money. Separation and compromised. Try it, maybe it will work on your relationship too.
