I scared Qing last night and almost burn down a part of our bedroom.
Scary huh...well the story goes like this...
When you endorse or promote something, it goes to show that you trust that product and you are using them personally.
That is why I am also careful when accepting endorsements and promoting a product. How can I convince people to buy or use them if I am not convinced myself.
And trusting people means you also trust the things that they endorse or promote. That is why I was sitting on a corner of our bedroom one evening and trying to fix a lamp.
This lamp, product, is being endorsed by a senior I know. She is nice to me when I guested in her show and ever since then we will always greet each other and she would introduce me to other senior performers and hosts too.
She is promoting this lamp so I decided to buy one because I need a desk lamp while I am typing away on my laptop. And because I trust my senior.
But this lamp is strange. The company will give you the parts and you can assemble it on your own with the help of a manual that comes with the package.
I did everything, assembled it just like what the manual said, but when I plugged the thing, it won't light up. Huh?!
Qing: Maybe it's defected. You should have videod yourself while assembling it so you have an evidence that you didn't tamper the parts.
I glared at him. He is lounging relaxedly at our bed while reading a book, won't even pretend to have any interest in helping me. Now he is critisizing the poor lamp?
I ignored his useless side comment and read the manual again. Maybe I missed something. But I already assembled, disassembled and assembled again this thing, it still won't work. What did I missed?
Me: (scratching my head) Should I disassemble it again?
Qing: You should stop...that's what you should do.
Me: (ignoring him) Maybe I put the flourescent wrong?
Qing: Or maybe you shouldn't have bothered to buy that thing in the first place.
Me: (still ignoring him) Maybe it's the switch?
Qing: Maybe it's really broken.
Me: I won't give up!
Qing: Give up and come to bed.
Me: I will start again...
Qing: Oh boy...
I disassembled the lamp again and start from the beginning, now being extra extra careful at following the instructions at the manual. From the corner of my eye, I saw Qing abandoning his book and turn sideways to watch my progress.
Ha! I will show him! I can make this lamp work!
Ten minutes later...
Me: (frustrated) (shouting at the lamp) Why won't you work?!
Qing: (sound gleeful) Give up already.
I glared at him again.
Me: (irritated) If you won't help me then kindly shut the fuck up!
Qing: (glaring back at me) Language Dayu. I know you are frustrated but do you really have to spend two hours just for a little lamp? Rest and maybe tomorrow you will figure out what is wrong with it.
