Do you know the fastest way to break someone's heart?

Lie to them.

I guarantee you. You will break someone's heart if you lied to them, especially if it involves your health.

Take Qing's dad. He lied to Qing's mom about going into the hospital to take that check up and blood test. But instead of going, Qing's dad went into a business meeting and forget about his doctor's appointment that Qing's mom arranged for him.

Then he lied when Qing's mom asked him if he went. But like all lies, this one quickly backfired.

The next day, Qing's mom received a call from the hospital asking why Qing's dad didn't attend his doctor's appointment.

A confrontation happened next. Words were said and now I have to serve Qing's mom tea because she is currently in our living room.

Her and her luggages.

Yup. We have a houseguest people. And it's human this time. A sad wife.

I feel for Qing's mom who is not happy with her husband right now. I take her side.

Actually I will always take Qing's mom side on anything. I am scared of her. If Qing's dad is not happy, Qing will shield me from him. But if his mom is not happy, it's every man for himself out there. Qing will run faster than me to avoid his mom's wrath. So there...

I carry the tea tray to the living room and put it on top of the center table.

Qing's mom: Dayu, I think you should place that plant somewhere else and not there so close to the door. It is distracting the initial view of your home.

I nodded.

Qing's mom: And ask your housekeeper to change the scent of the polish she is using. It's a bit too strong on my nose. And I see you followed my instruction on putting pots with herbs in your kitchen, that is good.

I beamed at her praise and serve her tea. She took her cup.

Qing's mom: (after taking a sip) I am sorry Dayu. I think I have been being too free on giving you advices on how you should run your home...

Me: Oh no Ma. Advice away. I don't mind really.

It's true. I don't mind listening to Qing's mom's tips on how to have a functional home. She manages the mauseleom (mansion!) for over two decades and it is a beautiful home albeit too big for my taste.

She is an expert homemaker. I am taking advantage of the fact that I can have free home advice from her.

Me letting her give me home advices are one of the reason why Qing's mom and I don't have any clashes. Plus the fact that I don't feel comfortable upsetting a regal lady like her.

She can have her say in our home and lives. That might drive Qing a little crazy at times, her mom dipping her hand on our business but if it will give his mother a reason to worry less for us, I take that as a win.

Speaking of Qing. My phone rings and his name flash on the screen.

Me: (pressing the answer button) Hello.

Qing: Hi. Is mom there?

Me: Yes. Do you want to talk to her?

I mouthed Qing's name for his mom. She held her hand for the phone and I gave it to her before Qing can agree or say negative to my question.

Qing's mom: Qing ah.

I wince when I saw a frown appeared on her face as she listen to what Qing is saying on the other line.

Qing's mom: (in a cold tone) Then I will ask Dayu is I am being an inconvenient to him.

What the...did Qing really indicated that his mom is an inconvenience to me? I will kill him!

Qing's mom: I will not ask Dayu to change his schedule just to accomodate me. I can entertain myself Qing ah. I also have a schedule to follow you know.

I groan inside. Qing is digging a grave for himself and I am sitting at the front row seat to watch.

Qing's mom: (arching an elegant eyebrow) What do you mean I worry too much Qing ah? Your father missed his doctor's appointment. Again! What do you want me to feel? Should I be happy and congratulate him for missing it?!

I give up. I can't save him now.

Qing's mom: (nodding and nodding as she listens to her son) That's good Qing ah. At least now I know where you stand in this issue. Just like your sister and father, you think I am also over reacting about this. Good for all of you. (In an annoyed tone) Stop saying Ma to me! Yes, I will talk to Dayu and ask him first if I am welcome here.

Oh my God. I have to find a new boyfriend! This one has already signed a death warrant from his own mother!

Qing's mom passed the phone to me.

Qing's mom: Talk to your boyfriend Dayu. I am not happy with him.

Me: (accepting the phone and putting a hand on the speaker side) Yes Ma. And for the record Ma, you are always welcome here and you will never be an inconvenience to me.

Qing's mom: (smiled fondly at me) Thank you Dayu. And please tell your boyfriend that I am not happy with him. The only good thing he has done so far in his life is to pursue you and take you home to us.

She is not happy with anyone right now except with me. I am not happy with Qing either and I intend to tell him that.

I nodded and stood up with the phone as Qing's mom continued having tea.

I went to our room and close the door before I put the phone on my ear.

Me: (whispering angrily) Are you out your mind?! What the hell are you saying to your mom?! Are you high on drugs right now?!

Qing: (sighing) Is she really upset?

Me: She is sitting rigidly on the sofa Qing. Rigidly! It means no, she is not upset cause she had passed that stage. She is now royally pissed, thanks to you!

Qing: She worry too much...

Me: Don't. Your dad is wrong this time Qing. We all know this is not the first time that your dad forgot his doctor's appointment. Your mom has the right to be upset.

Qing: (sounding frustrated) I know! But I talked to Baba earlier and he is being extra stubborn about this fight with Ma? What do you want me to do? Argue with him? You know that if we argue we will just go back to our issue of me doing something else than helping to run our business...

The old arguments. Why do I have to be part of this family? Oh yeah, I love their son.

Qing: Will you really be okay with Ma there?

Me: Yes. And I hope you will call or message her to apologize because if you don't, I will go there in Shanghai just to bash your head.

Qing: Fine! I will call her. (Sighing again) Thank you my Little Squirrel. For doing this for Ma.

Me: You will do this for my mom too, right?

Qing: Of course. I love you.

Me: Stay safe there always. Don't worry about me and your mom. We will be fine. Work hard and I love you too.

We ended that call in a sweeter note. I took a deep breath and walk back outside.

My weekend with Qing's mom will start now.
