What Are We Tama?
Chapter 7
Maui's POV
The next day...
I'm sailing Tamatoa and I to a nearby island to spend the entire day sight seeing and whatever else we please to do. I personally would love to go for a hike at some point today. Tamatoa is looking around every side of the boat, taking the beauty of the island in like an energetic puppy. "Maui, this island is stunning. Are we actually going to be able to explore the island?" I smile like a giddy schoolboy. "We sure are Tama. How do you feel about that?" He claps his claws together and jumps up and down, nearly tipping the boat over completely, causing a chuckle to slip out. "I'm so excited!" He throws himself into my arms. "This is going to be so much fun." I blush from how close to my face Tama is. My eyes go to his lips. I so desperately when to crash mine onto his, but I know better than to do that until I'm certain he feels the same about me.
Three hours later...
I managed to convince Tama to go on a hike with me to the top of the small but nice mountain. It only took us about twenty minutes to get to to the top. The view up here is absolutely lovely. You can see the entire island and vast horizon from up here. Before the hike, we went to some of the shops and had a picnic style lunch down by the shore. Those sandwiches were the best I've ever had in my life. Remind me to come back to this island whenever I have an intense sandwich craving. I sit down on a rock and Tama sits beside me. "Hey M-Maui?" I smirk at him. "Why are you stuttering Tama? Are you nervous?" He puffs out his chest in attempt to appear more confident. "Me, the Tamatoa nervous? As if." I laugh. "Whatever you say Crab Cakes." He groans. "I hate it when you call me that." I gently nudge him. "You know you secretly love it when I do." Tama grins at me. "Yeah you're right, I do love it when you call me Crab Cakes."
I inch a little closer to him. We're now close enough that our legs are touching. The contact is simple but makes my heart race. Now would be the perfect moment to test the waters and see how Tama feels about me. I think I'll try. "Tama, I have a question for you." "Sure. What's your question Babe?" I grin. "I love it when you call me that. Anyways, my question for you is when's the last time you dating anyone?" His joyful smile turns into a frown. "I haven't dated anyone in at least five hundred years." I frown too. Poor Tamatoa. Besides me ripping off one of his legs, no wonder why he was the way he was. He's been alone for so long that he's forgotten what love feels like altogether.
A lump forms in my throat and I slowly shallow it down. "Tama... do you want to love again?" A tear slips down his cheek which I wipe away with my thumb. "I really do want to love again Maui." "I hope you can find love in your heart Tama." "Maui, I've developed a little bit of feelings for this one guy recently. I want to tell him how I feel, but I know for a fact it's going to put a damper on our friendship." "It's funny that you said that Tama because I'm in the same boat myself. Whoever you have feelings for Tama is lucky. I'd love to be with someone like you." Tama leans in, almost if he's about to challenge me. "Would you love to be with someone like me... or would you want to be with me?"
My eyes bug out of my head and my jaw drops. "What'd you just ask me Tama?" He smirks. "You heard me babe but based on your reaction, I'm going to take it that that fellow that you're interested in is me." A shaky breath escapes my mouth. "H-how'd you know?" Tama cups my face gently and gazes deeply into my eyes. "I see it in the way you look at me and how you treat me with such respect despite my reputation in all of the realms. By the way Maui, I like you too." I gasp and begin to blush profusely. I groan and hide my head in my hands. I hate how he can make me blush so easily. All of this blushing makes me look and feel so unmanly.
Tama chuckles at my childlike actions. "Maui, show me your face Babe. I love it when I cause you to blush." I sigh and reveal my tomato face, causing Tama to burst out into a laughing fit. I roll my eyes. "Ha ha, very funny. Now tell me Tama, what does this mean?" Tama tilts his head in a confused fashion. "What do you mean?" I ruffle his hair playfully. "I'm asking what are we silly. Are we just friends or do you want to be something more? Personally, I want to be something more." Tama squeezes my cheeks and kisses both of them. "If you want to be something more, then something more we shall be."
