Chapter 64

Maui's POV

 Three days later... 

   Tama and I have finally adjusted emotionally, mentally, and physically to being back in Montonui. We're back to helping the fishermen with their daily catches, gathering supplies, and pulling up islands and what not. The last part is obviously my doing since I'm such a pro at it. I mean I've only been doing it for over three thousand years but who's counting. Oh that's right I am. I'm always counting. You're welcome. Though as Tama and I perform our tasks of the day, I notice Mo pacing back and forth from afar. Loi's attempting to get her to relax but is failing. The boy means well but he doesn't know Mo like I do. I know exactly what'll calm her down, a sailing session around the island. 

   "Hey Tama, do you want to go for a quick sail around the island?" He nods eagerly and follows me over to where Mo and Loi are. "Hey Mo, hey Loi. What's going on?" Moana sighs while continuing to pace. "Mo's been on overload while you guys were gone and even now despite you two being back for three days. She desperately needs a break. The poor girl hasn't had one in months. I know how to sail so I was thinking we could go on a short trip soon. I know you guys just got back and I feel awful for even asking what I'm to ask, but could you take her place as chief while we're gone Maui? Tama could be your adviser and help to ensure that things get done around the island." I put a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I'd be honored to fill in as chief and Tama would be as well to be my adviser. Right Tama?" Tama nods with a warm smile. 

   Loi takes me by surprise and throws himself into my arms. Not knowing how to respond, I get him a one armed hug and light pat on the back. I don't know Loi well enough to give him a full brotherly hug. Plus he has to earn it. He's well on his way of earning it though. He's good to Mo and that's the most important thing. "When do you plan on leaving and how long will you be gone for?" Mo finally speaks up for the first time since Tama and I joined them. "We'll leave in two days time and be gone for a week. We probably won't venture as far you and Tama did, just to a nearby island is all. Close enough to get home in time but far enough to have a proper getaway." "Sounds good. Now try not to stress too much between now and then Mo. Just focus on the fact that in two days time, you'll be free from the stresses that come along with being chief for a week. You're leaving Montonui in great hands with Tama and I." 

    Mo nods in agreement before giving me and Tama both hugs. "You two are the best. Thank you so much. This means the world to me. I'll do something for you both when we get back." I shake my head no. "You don't owe us anything Mo. You planned our wedding and made it wonderful. You stressed yourself out for months just to make sure we were happy. Let us make you happy by doing this simple favor." Mo frowns. "Are you sure?" "I'm sure. Now turn that frown upside down." She rolls her eyes at my horrible rhyme but a smile seeps through her annoyed facade. "Tama and I have to head back to our work. We just wanted to make sure you were okay. We'll see you both tonight at dinner." I give Mo one more hug and a kiss on the cheek as does Tama and pat Loi on the back once more before we head back over to the fishermen to continue catching fish. 

Hoped that you guys liked this chapter! My internet won't be inspected until Monday unfortunately so I have to struggle through my crappy internet for now. I try to use the clubhouse wifi whenever I get the chance, but the clubhouse closes around ten each night so I can't stay there after that. -Mary
