Chapter 9

Maui's POV

  I feel horrible for pulling away when Tama tried to kiss me, but honestly he doesn't deserve my affection tonight. He was acting awfully sinister towards Moana and our relationship. I'm worried that when we get back to Montonui, jealously is going to get the best of him and he's going to revert back to his old ways. To be honest, I'm a little scared of Tama when he goes dark. In his dark state, Tama's truly unpredictable and can often cause destruction either upon others and/or himself. I don't want him to become evil again. I don't think I could bear it if he did. 

  Instead of falling asleep right away, I torture myself by overthinking. I do this for at least three hours before actually falling asleep, though I toss and turn throughout the night.

The next morning...

  I wake up absolutely exhausted and feeling guilty. I get up a bit too quickly and fall to the floor. Groaning, I slowly lift myself back up, take a moment to wake up, and go to Tamatoa. I walk over to his bed to see him sitting up in it, his expression rather empty. His eyes meet mine quickly before looking straight ahead once again. "Tama, I'm sorry for not kissing you back last night as well as for some of the things I said. I just can't deal with anymore stress right now. As you've probably noticed, I don't exactly handle stress very well." Tama sighs and says in a monotone voice, "It's okay Maui. All is forgiven." "Are you sure?" He nods and continues to stare at the wall. 

  I walk over to him until I'm right in front of his very eyes. "Tama, can you please look at me?" Hesitantly, he makes eye contact with me. "I love you Tama. Just because we had our first squabble as a couple doesn't mean you get to shut down on me okay?" "Y-you're right Maui. I'm sorry too. I don't handle stress well either. Most of the time when I'm stressed, I do something that seems satisfying in the moment but end up regretting later." I sit down next to him and lean my head on his shoulder. "Tama, there's no problem that we can't overcome together. Also, I know we've had a rough past, but you can trust me. You and I aren't the same villains we were before." He nods into my shoulder and I kiss his forehead. We sit in silence for awhile before going about our normal daily routines.
