Chapter 17

Maui's POV

 I slowly get up from my slumber to find a note from Tama beside me. The note reads the following: Hey babe, I just went down to the shore to do some thinking. You don't have to come find me, I'll be back by nightfall. Though I want you to do me one favor, go check on Moana. I'm really worried about the girl. Her behavior earlier has me worried that she might harm herself. I love you. See you later. -Tama 

  I hold the note to my heart in a super dorky way before getting dressed and heading over to Moana's hut. Though as I reach it, I see Sina and Tui standing outside of it with looks of horror, heartbreak, and loss... A lump forms in my throat. It appears that Tama had good reason to worry. "Sina, Tui, what's going on?" Sina bursts into tears at my question while Tui holds her and gives me the saddest look I've ever seen on a human being. "M-Moana committed suicide. We just found her hanging by a rope a little while ago." "W-what? N-n-no. That can't be possible." Tui motions towards the hut. "Why don't you see for yourself Maui? Though I'm warning you, you might not be able to handle it." I know for certain that I can't handle it, but I need to see it with my own eyes in order to believe it's true.

  I give him a small nod, take a deep breath, and enter her hut. As I do, I look up the ceiling and clutch my heart when I see Moana's limp body dangling from it. Panic arises in me as I untie the rope wrapped around her heart and pull her body down, holding her in my arms. I look at the deep bruising around her throat and upper body and my heart goes from broken to shattered. This is all my fault. If I had just stayed with her and continued to make her happy like I did for the year we were together, she wouldn't be dead right now. Not caring if anyone sees or hears me, I break down worse than I ever have in my entire life. My sobs resemble the howls of wolves. Sina and Tui soon come in, sit on both sides of me, and we all hold each other as we continue to sob. 

  I need to fix this. There's only way I can bring Moana back, which is sail with Tamatoa to Te Fiti and beg for her help in restoring Moana's life. As soon as Tama comes back tonight, I'm leaving for Te Fiti. Moana has so much time left. It's far too soon for her to be dead and never roam the Earth again other than in spirit.
